I just installed the HID's in my 95 Q this weekend. It was easy. There is no error message. I guess the 35W from the ballast is enough draw not to set off the computer code. There is no glare at all for oncoming traffic. I tried driving my dad's car and had the Q follow me and stuff. Looks like factory HID's.

Very nice white color. Beam pattern is perfect. I didn't take any pics with one HID and one stock light but I did drive around for a while with one stock and one HID. The HID had almost the EXACT same beam pattern as stock except a LOT brighter.

I took some pics and am currently uploading them to clubphoto but their server is a dog and is taking forever to upload the pics...as soon as it's done, I'll post pics.

The pics are being uploaded onto the Members Rides as we speak. Check them out. The pics do not do the lights justice. I don't really know how to take good digital pics. I used no flash but for some reason, the lights look super bright. There is no glare at all when looking at them head on.

If anyone is in the Boston area and would like to see them in person, let me know.

They cost $380. Took about 30 min to install them. No splicing, no modifications. I mounted the ballasts with double stick tape and zip tied the igniters. Like I said, no flickering, no error message or anything. These should have come stock with the car. Really makes the Q look like the luxury car that it is meant to be.

I'll take some pics vs. Silverstars. I have the Silverstars in my Sentra. Like I said, when I first installed it, I had one HID and one stock bulb just for comparison. It didn't even compare.

You can kind of see the difference in the pic of the HID and the foglights.

The brand is Brightstar. I got them from http://www.importhookup.com

oh, ok. since the beam pattern is correct, the focal length of the bulbs is correct...

Very interesting. Your picture HID From The Side looks like the high beams are on also, but I see no color temp difference. Are the high beams Silverstars? I assume the low beams are H4 HID replacements?

Don't really see the beam kick-up in your beam pattern on the wall shot either. Is it still there?

Look forward to your write up.

well, a hid bulb in a halogen housing will yield the same beam pattern as the halogen bulb, only brighter.

in order to achieve the sharp line and edge kick up [a la BMW] the housing's reflectors must be designed that way.

A la Q45 (and all halogen lenses for H4 bulbs), they are.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45

in that case, it should be the same, unless the bulbs focal length is off slightly.

i thought you were referring to the hid beam pattern like in bmw's.

I was about to ask the same thing. Mine have a flare on the right too with halogen bulbs.

The conversion does seem to work well though. The lights still have a nice sharp cutoff (for DOT spec lights).

Just checked the site and they now have a "holiday special" - $359 w/ free 2 day shipping! I'm working on a few details, but I'm seriously considering this... my AMEX card is shivering in the the wallet now... :D

on many kits, they are! ( and it does make a detectable difference on the beam dispersion)

That's why it would be interesting to see a comparison photograph of the D2S (HID) bulb to the H4 bulb it replaces.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45

The HID kit for some reason doesnt' stay on with the highbeams. So the pics of the HID from the side are only the low beams. The highbeams come on separately.

I'm going to try to take some pics at dusk because I think when it's pitch black, the camera can't take good pictures. The pictures that are up right now don't do the lights ANY JUSTICE. The color and brightness are much better than that.

.

That's because the stock H4 bulb has two filaments and has two different terminals on the base of the bulb. The bulb is always on with high/low beams, but different filaments are lit up, and current is provided via different terminals on the connector.

In other words, there are three terminals on the connector, and your HID kit only uses the low beam and ground terminal. The high beam terminal is unused, so when the high beams are on, the HIDs don't get a signal to turn on. If you look at the wiring diagram, you could probably figure a way to keep the low beam terminal hot any time the headlights are on by disabling a relay (just guessing though)

thats the reason ive been reluctant of aftermarket HID kits. hidkits.com sells kits with proper focal length bulbs, but the 500 dollar price tag could be put to better use.

Could be an expensive repair if you hit anything - even at low speed!

Will normal insurance cover the higher cost lights?

ivory...you could always adjust the focal point of the D2S bulb by adding some washers to move the focal point back. This site deals with it but it is down at the moment http://www.geocities.com/jvxdr...n.htm You can always get a set of ballasts and bulbs off ebay for cheap http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...33871

Not too expensive. Like I said, it was only $380. Even if the car were to get into an accident, because of the new law, I don't think I'd be able to find aftermarket HID's anymore.

My wife is the primary driver of the vehicle. I just wanted to try this HID conversion for kicks and giggles.

the problem with the d2s bulb is that the bulb is too short in the first place. [focal length] shimming it will make it worse.

guess that is a problem. Just get silverstars and save yourself a few hundred bucks. At night they are pure white and during dusk they look nice too.
