Finally. It’s done!I just installed HID with relay kit.

As we talked about it before, there r two ways it can be done, either remove your bumper or remove your wheels. If you choose to remove your bumper, you can do the job very neat. If you choose to remove your wheels, you can do it little faster. I chose to remove my bumper since I’m a neat freak. It was pretty painful job. It took little longer than I was expected. Make sure you remember what you took off, how many bolts and pins took off and where you took em off.I don't recommend this installation if you havnt done such job like this before. Here’s some pix

ballast-psnger side, driver side - under the headlight

looks like Z, isn it?

i know.. im a bad picture taker

i will upload better pictures later.ask me if you have any questions

It took around 3 hours. It was not that difficult to remove the bumper but you gotta know what you r doing. I think I removed 13-15 pins, 5 screws from bumper and 5-6 screws from each headlight. After you removed screws and pins from bumper (make sure you remove one behind wheel liner), simply pull out the bumper carefully.Since I had HID kit for my previous car, Mustang, I used its ballasts. They are from O-Nex, Japanese product n they are pretty good. I purchased Bosch H11 bulbs and universal relay kit separately.Hope this help

I also replaced license plate bulbs to cool white color. If anybody ever wanna see the pics or know how-to, let me know.

Bonus picture. My bumper is sitting on my friend's place. Its huge but very light!

Any temperature 6000k and below is street legal in most states i believe. You do not need to adjust the height of the bulb, just plug in the original socket. They are fairly cheap now, you can get off brands for less then $100 of ebay and brand names like McCulloch for around $250 also on ebay. The HID kits consists of the ballasts, bulbs, and wires connectors. Hope that answer your questions.

Gentlemen, when you do these projects, can you take step-by-step pictures and provide a detailed "how to" guide? It would be very helpful to the Altima community to have these online.

Thanks

All aftermarket HID are illegal in my state, Virginia. I think most of other states are like that, too. 6000-7000K is safe range of temp you can get. Not 3000K(yellow) or 10000K(blue or purple) I never get pulled over because of HID tho. I would recommend you to go dealer to check if ur aiming is good. And when they are doing the job, ask them to aiming little lower than standard. sometimes the HID makes people blind on the street and cop doesn like that either. Be careful on rainy day, too. Because of all this reflection, you get all attention from cop. You can do the aiming job by urself. just one tool needed, a screw driver maybe.

I know it looks very cool HID foggy. If I do it, i would go for 3000K. But I would not do that because wiring job and locating ballasts will drive you crazy. HID on foggy is kinda useless too. I think you will waste another $2-300 most likely. If you looking for different color on ur foggy, just get the higher quality bulbs in different color. just my thought.

PIAA Ion Crystals are not too bad for fog lights. Unfortunately you have to deal with it having a blue center when on which looks kinda tacky.

I took several pictures. I thought about make a how-to thread.

im telling you, as long as you can remove your bumper and headlights, it will be very simple job and its all up to you. Its ur call where you put the ballasts, install relay kit or not, how to hide all the wires. I do not want people follow my way and blame me later. This is why i did not make how-to thread. I will try to take more pix and post them (if i have a time) to show y'all how-to remove the bumper and headlights.I can make a recommendation if you got stuck on a problem.

There is no blame. People have the opportunity to follow what you did or do something else. Any modifications to a stock vehicle are always at the owners discretion.

It would be nice to add how-to's to the altimacoupe.com site and NICO's nissanTech page. I have already put together "HID foglights" and other how-to's up for the Maxima. Having the altima ones too would be great.

Here is an example how-to that I put together for HID Fogs:

If i had to do it all over again, i would take off the bumper again. If i only need to replace the bulbs, i will only take off the wheel liners, not wheels. I just thought about it and i would not recommend you to remove wheels to install HID. Hard to locate your ballast and wiring job will even more painful. Even u find the good spot to locate your ballasts, it is bad for your ballasts. I remember that one of my friend did the job thru that way, and her HID got many problems on ballasts. We did not figure out exactly why it happed but we assume that because of the area is kinda humid and it vibrates all the time since its near the wheels.

I did plafce the ballast for ths right side under the headlight. I directly attached under, just like genuine xenon product. I will try to upload more picture tonight to show you where the pins and how the result came out.

Here are some pics for the screws located on the bumper.I have not lay down to check how many are there but I assume that there are 4 below the bumper and 2 under wheel liner.

If you have the premium package you already have the factory HID system. If you looking for a different color you can replace your bulbs with the D2R size. I would suggest looking at the Philips 6000k Ultinon.

Your nearest automotive store, "Stereo" Shack, or even W or K-Marts. Most HID kits, however, come with relays. So check the kit you purchase first.

i did not lower my bulbs. I just plug them in. If you want to lower your bulbs, take your car to dealer before you install HID. You can do it on your own but its very tricky to make them perfectly equal. I did not have to lower it since its not that high to make other drivers blind. Let me know if you decide to do it on your own, i will tell you how to.
