Enjoy what you have grasshopper... You need to realize that you are very blessed to have such a nice car at your age. I just hope that your parents/Guardians are instilling in you a sense of responsibility and making you pay for this vehichle. Please don't take this as critisism (Just wise advice) You should SAVE your money for now and learn to appreciate the things you have before you try to move on to the next best thing... "True happiness does not mean having what you want, it's wanting what you already have"

You've got MANY years ahead of you to get another car... save your money now for college and/or life savings, cause life is going to throw you some curve balls in the next few years that will make you wish you had tucked some money away. I say "NOT NOW" to you, but that is just a nickles worth of free advice!

If you have to get rid of the G then get a 6.0 GTO. 400hp stock, and the same gas mileage as the GT.

It was a toss up before I bought the G35. G35 gas mileage is worse than advertised. If I had known that, I would be driving a GTO right now with 400hp instead of 280hp.

And the GTO price is already in the very low 20k range.

Good suggestion!!!

Also, check CONSUMER REPORTS on those mustangs. Compare it to your G.Or should I say no comparison to your G.

Just check, 06 GTO is rated better than the 05 GTO

Another idea,If you HAVE to have a Mustang GT, looks like the best year is the 2001.

Find a low mileage 2001 Saleen Mustang!!

(Consumer reports doesn't like the 05 or 06 very much)

OK, how about a low mileage 1999 Cobra. The only year with IRS!Some folks did snap the half axles at the strip, but if you use it for it's intended purpose (twisties), you're good to go!

Funny you should ask...Just happen to have an 06 GT in my garage right now. And, next to it is a 08 G35. My daughter drives the GT most of the time. I've driven it a lot too. My opinion is that it is a very good car. It has plenty of torque and power. It has a sound second to none. However, it does not ride anywhere as smoothly as the G, and it is no where as quite inside as the G. Acceleration is fairly close between the two cars.

Driving around town, the GT is more fun. For cruising the beach, the GT is great. On the road, the G is better. Trips, the G is far better. The mileage of the 2 cars is similar, with the G probably a little better in town, and the GT a little better on the road. Two different cars, 2 different purposes. If I had to have only one car though, it would be the G. However, if I were 16, I'd probably go with the Mustang. If you're in to aftermarket mods, the Mustang is cheaper and there are many more items available. The quality of the Mustang is pretty high compared to what American cars have been in the past. The quality of the G is exceptional.

Insurance seems to be more on the G but that may be because it is newer and more expensive.

I understand. Cutting costs. An older mustang GTwould be good. You could get one with low miles. Then, huge aftermarket. It would need more power - sc. Also, would definitely need springs. I used Steeda sport springs on my 97 cobra coupe. Amazing how much better it handled!!

wait a minute...you said in the $20k to 24k range....a G coupe is in that range....

I tend to agree. Selling your G and buying a 20-25k car isn't going to cut much in the way of costs. Keep the G.

Recently, there was a 2004 G coupe with 38K miles for sale at our local VW dealer. They initially wanted $26K, they came down to $23K. I've bought some used cars from them in the past, so they called me before they were to take it to auction and offered the car to me for $18,800. I assume they would have come down some more.

04s and 05s are different cars, different bodys. 6MTs are not available in the GT, you'll have to settle for one less gear with a 5MT.

Hey, you could get a part time job and contribute to the car payment!

Best hp - $ ratio is a Hemi RAM!

Should be able to pick up a 05 for much less then $17k

With minor mods can be faster then a G

Take that Mustangs

In January, I went new car shopping. I drove just about everything out there. I was in the same price range as you and went with my 04 G35x sedan. The first car I drove was a mustang. Frankly I was unimpressed. It had 300HP but could only put down about 250HP. I guess I had high expectations being a mustang owner and currently owning a 90 conv. supercharged. My 90 doesn't handle as well as the new one but it still didn't stick to the road as well as the G. For me it was no comparison.

I think there is something to the mustang/infiniti crossover. I thought I was by myself on this one. I love my mustang for autocrossing, but for everyday use, it just can't touch the G.

Moral- buy a used G in your price range.

Buy an LS1 C5 Vette or a 6.0 GTO, end of story.

The factory parts will handle up to 330 RWHP... after that you'll be fine up to 370 rwhp if you don't do demand downshifts into 2nd gear. Basically if you want to down shift move the shift lever on the column.
