The AE86 Corolla, the 240SX, the FD and FC variants of the RX-7 are too old a car for band wagoners of drifting to put time and effort to reviving these relics.

The only new production RWD cars seen in D1 and Formula Drift are Domestic cars and the luxury RWD import cars.

With this new FR on the market, the Genesis Coupe will definitely have a lot of support.
the kind of people i like to talk with, who dont bash another car without even knowing anything about it. Thanks fo rdoing you research my man!

Don't get me wrong I love my AC as much as the next guy on this forum, but I would definitely give the Hyundai a second look before I made up my mind. Seems a little harsh to talk down on a car that hasn't been given much review, test drives, or a release on North American soil.

Sure I understand that Hyundai has had a bad rep to say the least with the Pony and what not, but wasn't it not too long ago that domestics here were once horrendous in reliability? Even they have come a long ways away, what's to say another country can't do the same?

I agree with Mcheddadi in that the Genesis has much more initial aftermarket interest compared to the A/C. For proof just wait until the SEMA show to see how many AC's will show up compared to how many Genesis coupes. I think that'll speak for itself.

Anyways if you're buying a new car I would personally wait for both cars to come out, test drive them both, or wait a couple / few more months for SEMA to happen, for journalists to test drive the cars so you have more information. Better yet, see if Jeremy Clarkson will give the thing a spin (Top Gear starts in November!), let him try to tear Hyundai a new a**hole, which he will for sure try, and then make up your mind.

Just my 2 cents.
yeah man, thats what ive been trying to say all along, the Genesis has stirred much more tuning buzz then the AC. And just like i previously stated the i4 turbo seems to be promising.

I posted some links for the SEMA genesis cars, why dont you all check them out:P

yeah thats what im planning on doing, waiting for some true expert reviews for the car, then go ahead and decide. as for top gear, hahaha i dont think theyll be driving one soon, or are they!??

First I have to ask, why are you comparing a fwd 'sports' coupe to an actual sports car?

I guess if you're willing to take a risk, go for the Genesis, but be wary of quality. I think most will agree that it is sportier and is receiving a lot of support/hype. The question is, will it live up to it? Its not a bad car by any means though.

I love my A/C, its great, it has great performance, and I think it looks better than the Genesis. Not to mention it will retain its value better. I look at the depreciation as the cost to own the car x amount of years. With the Genesis it will be a much greater cost in the end with its depreciation and its repair costs. Bottom line, the A/C is less of a risk economically and mechanically.

My .02 cents.

p.s. The Genesis just seems like it wants to be a G37 to me, just as the sedan version looks like it wants to be an S600. I know you can say the same about our cars and a G35, but at least its in the same family (Nissan).

Those guys at Top Gear drive and review almost every car available. The fact that this car will have 2 exciting different engine trims and an FR layout will definitely have peoples' attention.

yeah, it def does share some similarites between the G37, but personally i find the genesis coupe to be moe appealing then the G37, i know you guys can say im crazy or whatever. Sure the G37 looks nice sitting alone, but if you park the genesis and the G next to one another i prefer the genesis looks wise...

Here's my take on the Genesis. Early testing opinion says that the car doesn't handle well.

Yes, you can go with after market suspension, and bracing to make things better, but the bottom line is that you're starting out low.

Comparing the AC to the Genesis is laughable. Why don't you compare the Genesis to the new G37 Sedan or Coupe.

Nissan has built a reputation for performance and reliability (even if the latter has fallen a little IMO). Hyundai has built a reputation for economy cars that break easily.

I personally HATE Korean cars. Kia and Hyundai (same company) and Daewoo build garbage and like it was mentioned, the warranty has to be offered because the cars fall apart so easily. A friend of mine didn't even have 10k miles on her 05 accent and the transmission completely failed. The only mod done to the car was a home-made CAI.

Even with the "Industry leading" warranty, the dealership still tried to peg the $2600 repair bill on my friend. Why? Because of the intake

I'm trying to be opened minded towards a lot of companies that I really dislike (Most of the Domestics, Mazda, Mitsubishi, All of the Chinese and Korean...etc), but Hyundai and it's "Sports Car" haven't changed my mind yet.

Maybe a 2012 version of the Genesis when they've worked all of the kinks out of it and have stolen some engineers from Japan hehehe.

Korea is known for making great little gadget with more bells and whistles than the competition, but rarely are they made well. I can only think of Samsung as a Korean brand that consistently makes quality products. LG can go to HELL!!!

Uhm. Yeah. You're crazy lol. I know its your opinion on what is more aesthetically pleasing to you. However, its no coincidence that all Hyundais happen to look like some other car in the same class. What would you rather have? The real McCoy or a knock off?

Also, I still stand by what I said about the car's worth.

Not to mention what some have already said. There have been many reports with the car's underwhelming handling. That coupled with Hyundai's mechanical integrity are reason enough to pass on this car. Don't be pulled in by all the hype.

But, yeah... the Hyundai doesn't touch the G...

I have problem with the genesis's "smile" on the front bumper. looks too crazy to me, makes me think of the crazy 370z and maxima 09 headlights. Must be a new design trend or something.

If I'd buy it, I'd get the I4 and save up the couple of thousand from the v6 one + cost of fuel for a year and lower insurance and then I'd turbo THE s*** out of it!

rwd turboed to 400+HP! id wait a couple of years then I'd strip the interior crap (thats why I wouldn't get leather or fancy s*** in it like nav ) and make it suppa light! damn that car just begs for drift!

the altima coupe on the other hand is lux + sport. safe on the road yet agile enough to carve some nice twisties. what it needs is AWD

P.S. I love the g37's design. soo elagant an simple in black with that chrome rear spoiler. love it.

lol yep, I've had in my altima coupe so many little probs that I wouldn't be suprised to see the genesis coupe outlasst the altima coupe lol.

sagging headliner, broken sunroof clip, changed both calipers and brake pad, electic motor in the seat stopped working, passenger airbag sensor got messed up so I did the voluntary TSB.

thats 5 problems in one year lol. nissan's usa plant SUCK.

That is quite a few things to go wrong but the main thing is most of them are not performance related, they are just annoying. The worry I have with Hyundai is something a lot more serious than a sunroof clip might break, maybe like a transmission! You at least have an award winning engine under the hood.

The altima coupe had a fair amount of small issues and bulletins, but that is because it was the first year for the vehicle. The Genesis will probably be similar as it is a first year, and I think they are new engines for Hyundai as well.
