I bet you're probably a fiscal conservative, but yeah, maybe not a social one.
Unfortunately, there seem to be few Republicans like you these days. More and more GOPers are to the right of Jerry Falwell socially but are all about spending taxpayer dollars.
This is why I'm no longer really enamored of the GOP, it doesn't seem like it's made up by real conservatives anymore, more just that they have a "moral agenda" and the nuts and bolts of running the country are secondary.
I mean hell, we had Clinton (often an embarassment), but he was a DEM President who was a competent "pay as you go" fiscal steward, and then we have Dubya, who seems to write checks and rack up debt for the fun of it! WTF!
The fundamental character of both parties has changed seriously in the last two decades, and I think a major realignment is coming. As more and more people my age grow up and start taking the reigns, I expect the GOP to resemble the Libertarian party more and more (i.e. socially progressive but otherwise small-govt fiscal conservatism). The Dems are badly fractured, with old-school populists on one hand and the socalist coastal elite on the other. Not sure what they're going to do with that....if it wasn't for the GOP's current staggering unpopularity they'd be helpless. They're only "winning" because the other side is shxtting the bed so badly.
Hopefully the "Moral Majority" will splinter off into their own third party and field losing candidates for a few decades before falling on the scrap heap of history. They've sullied my Grand Old Party quite enough.....
