ok. so im looking into getting either a convert. or a coupe. heres my dilemma i love the way coupes look and id love the option of rolling around topless. but i don't really dig how the vert looks with the soft top i think it kinda throws off the lines on the car. me and a friend were thinking what it i cut the top off of a coupe and place it on top of the the convert body. i know there would be alot of fab work.. basically im asking how would everyone here on this forum take on a task like this i want opinions basically.. all opinions are welcome!

does the window on the vert have more of a slant than the coupe for aerodynamic reasons?i s there any length differences between them? what do you think i can use to seal it from water? rain stripping?

like i said before all opinions welcome!

Removable hardtops are made for many common convertibles, they never made them for the vert 240 because they were so limited. The verts are just modified coupes, so theoretically the roof should fit pretty well, but its going to be very heavy and very hard to move around. I would suggest looking into a lighter material, like FRP or carbon fiber.

Its a good idea, I bet you would get some better discussion going if you moved this thread to the convertible forums.

yea i figured that why they were never made and i know it would be heavy i was going to use the 240 roof just for measurements and fabing and such. i plan to use it as a mold if i do continue with the idea. if i do do it i plan i making a build thread and possibly going into production with these.. the thread is actually in both places i figure the more people see it the more responses ill get . thanks for your comment.. its any one else has any comments please let me know all criticism or help is welcome.

What i did was give my 89 hatch a targa top, after the hood latch failed and busted the windshield and ruined the roof. I think it would work pretty well on the coupe too. Just a suggestion.

I have seen this done before, but its not very economical because the roof is such an important part of the support structure on an S. A large amount of bracing is required to keep the frame from collapsing, this adds a large amount of weight. The vert 240 is already braced to support the frame, and a custom hardtop wouldn't add too much weight.
