Rex, Ayjay? Sorry if I annoyed you with this, but I was pretty set on having 2 subs, and blanked about a single sub setup. But if you are up to helping me, I'm still looking.

If not, I can understand, thank you for your help so far.

Buddhist - No problem, I was just seeing if anyone else offered any idas. I felt like I was hogging the thread :D.

If you want 2 and they can fit (space & budget) then go for 2. In the end, it's your car and your money.

If you want 2, I'd suggest seeing what box you can build/fit and then work backwards to identify the space specs that will fit. I know that sounds bassackwards, but too often people fall in love with a set-up and then try to "make it fit". Glad to see you're open to hearing about ideas and options.

I'll give it some more thought keeping your goal of 2 subs and the RF amp in mind.

BuddistWitch--

Twin subs are the way to go. Yes, a single sub, well placed and powered can hit very very hard, but I think you're on the right track, going with two. I would suggest, however, that you not install two 12" subs... instead go with 10s. Why? Better use of space if you ask me.

Have you considered a dual bandpass box? On a whim, I tossed one into my fastback and it worked really well! Yes, I know you have a coupe. The dimensions on the box I have are 14 3/8" d X 14" h X 26 1/4" w, and it holds two 10" subs. I would imagine that you could make that fit... It would probably fill up most of your trunk space and you can forget using your spare... LOL, but you might consider it.

As far as the RF amp, that's a great choice. It'll be more than enough to power a couple of good subs... but what subs? Well, that depends on what frequency range you want to explore. For instance, Infinity Perfects have a very low range (20-200 Hz, something like that) while Sony Xplods have a HUGE range (18-3K Hz, I think.) I wouldn't recommend EITHER for regular performance (Infinity lacks range, and Sony, well, Sony should stick to PS2...)

Once you get the same level of detailed specs on a subwoofer that you have on the RF amp, your decision will be pretty easy.

Yeah, that's probably why ayjay came up with the JLs. They matched almost perfectly with the rockford, and 2 10"s would have been ideal. But then the idea of a single, higher-powered sub came up... So I'm completely lost, even moreso than when I began.

See the suggested set-up above with the 1st box design and the 2 JL's, use the RF amp you're looking at and you should be happy.

There won't be much noticeable (sound/quality) difference between 1 "over-the-top" sub and 2 "better-than-average" subs. Now, if you went to a single Radio Shack sub using a Profile amp, then you'd hear a difference :D.

My .02:

2 10" JL's in a 4th order bandpass box powered by your RF amp. I think this is would be a solid setup you can EASILY expand if your needs ever change.

Ok, good times, now I have to go find out what box setup would fit my car best. And get some money. But thank you for the help, I'll post my setup when it's done.

I forgot to mention, after having that set-up, I've since had a MTX Terminator 10" box running off a Kenwood mono amp and the diff for most of the time is nil. Now of course the "redline" of the 1st system was much higher, but how much time do we really spend at redline ... ok, sorry stupid question.
