I have a 1992 240sx w/S13 blacktop and FAL electric fans which have stopped coming on when the engine gets hot. I am now having problems with overheating in traffic and the engine heats up quickly when sitting in traffic.

My first thought is that I need to replace the thermostat but now I am not sure if it is a temp sensor or something. Is there a way to test a thermostat to see if it needs to be replaced? Or to test my fans/temp sensors to see if they are hooked/working properly?

Thanks

Just wire them to a switch, so you can control them manually.

how are your fans wired up, many people use switches because there isnt an output on the ECU that controls the fans, if the thermostat was bad the engine wouldnt be heating up, it is not you problem, it is either your wiring, or it is the temp sensor or relay that control your fans that is messed up

The fans are wired to the temp sensor.

post up exactly how your fans are wired up and we can probably help you out.

grab a multimeter ($20 @ sears) and start looking at the voltage to check up on the wiring.

I figured out the problem.

This weekend I checked over all of the wires coming from the fans and found that the the power wire going to the battery had been cut.

At first I didn't know how that happened but then I remembered that I had taken my car to the Nissan dealership a week ago to have a part fixed on my steering column and they said they removed the battery (don't know why).

The moral of the story is be careful when someone works on your car check all your connections and find out what they are doing.

Thanks for the help though
