Hello All, I just ordered a G35XS, and I am not sure I have made the right move. I live in the Sierra foothills at 4000' elevation, and my work takes me into the Lake Tahoe area, quite a bit. There is no way around it " I have to have the X version" This car will be a combination work, dailey driver, and an occasional jaunt to Thunderhill for for a HSDE. I put a lot of miles on my car (200+ mi per day) but demand a fun and fast veh. My last 10 cars have been Subaru's, and I have had phenomenal good service from all of them. My last 3 cars were an 02 WRX, an 04 STI, and an 05 STI. All of my WRX's were modded moderately and were great fun to drive. I just want a change !!, and I was Very impressed with the G35S. but I have'nt driven the XS. (they, the dealer, dont have one). I Would love to hear from anyone who has an XS, or has heard pro's or con's on that model. Anyone know, if intake and exhaust mods, are avail for the XS. I know that there is plenty avail. for the G35, But what about the X ? Thanks, Jerry C P.S.. Is gas milage going to kill me on this car, 200+mi. a day. I promise I will drive it sanely.

Welcome to the forum. Most of us here love the G. It has a unique ride that I love. It has a quality that is 2nd. to none. It has adequate power, even for 4 to 6k feet. It isn't an STi though. Overall, you'll prefer the ride over that of the STi.

Gas on the other hand, probably isn't any worse than your STi, maybe better. There are plenty of MPG threads here and in the G37 forum. You can search for them as well as threads on modifications.

Welcome to NICO Jerry!! Congrats on your purchase you just bought a hawt car!

Some of the boys here with X's will chime in soon I'm sure. I know they are all quite happy with it's performance and the way it handles in bad weather. It won't be as quick as your STI but a couple bucks in mods will bring it closer.

It's a whole diferent kind of ride altogether then a Subie. It all depends what you like in a car!

But, I can say IMHO it looks MUCH nicer and the interior is certainly a step up.

Not sure what the X's gas mileage is offhand though.. hang tight, they'll chime in!

You made a good choice. This is my first Infiniti too. The service is amazing. When you bring the car in expect a person to open the door for you and escort you into the dealership. Get you imediately seated with a service advisor. The maintaince will cost what is quoted or LESS. Mobil 1 oil changes are $100. Transmission service is $140. Free loaner (you pay for gas) complementary food, water ect. Your car will be spotless when you pick it up, leather treated ect. My dealership even sponsers racing at Firebirds circle track 4 times a year. Link to last months race thread

zerothread?id=312948

Plus your G should beat a stock STI.... mine does ;-)

Great choice - I think you'll love the X. You'll find a huge difference in ride and comfort over your Suby. Mods are pretty much universal between the X and non-X versions apart from wheels. Not advisable to have them staggered if you decide to upgrade. Lowering can be done and there are numerous intake and exhaust options available. I drive about 90 miles per day (80% city) and average just over 17mpg.

As suggested, try some searches as your questions are very popular and have been addressed in detail.

Cheers.

I'd stick with a subaru. Try the new STI, I drove it and it's great. It's lighter than the G, and faster. Also you can get the 6sp manual, while the G35x is 5 sp AUTO! Keep in mind at such elevation, you will loose performance in a NA car.

If you are looking for a comfy car, then the G is a good car, but the STI is a lot more performance oriented.

Thanks to all that replied. There is no doubt that the G35 is a more sophisticated veh., but it feels like it has the potential to be a monster with a little tweeking. My big concern is that the X, will limit the amount of parts available, in the aftermarket world. I wonder if the Stillen catback will fit the x. I have a lot more research to do. Just thought I would check with, the best info source, G35 owners. Hi ADREN, I have driven everything in AWD that is avail.. I LOVE the STI, but I was very impressed with the G35s. My wife is not as thrilled with the STI as I am. So I think this next 2 years I will try the Infinity. By the way that 6 speed is a mixed blessing. It makes for very busy driving in heavy traffic. It is also a negative in 0 to 60 times. That is usually why the EVO has faster times. I just wrung out a Evo X yesterday, and I guarantee you my 05 STI would have blown the doors off that car. I was totally stunned at the lack of low end torque on the EVO. I now know why they go through clutches every 15k mi. I think i am in the minority, but I like the look of the new EVO, but was very dissapointed after the test drive. Would love to hear from other G35xs owners. Thanks again to those who commented!! Jerry...welcome to NICO

You will love the X, is my guess. If you want to know specifics about mods available for you car, talk to JOE at http://www.everythingG35.com and he can give you the low down.

The X does have differences and due to that you will find that there are not as many options available, but the majority of mods will still work.

XS is the best car Infiniti can offer today. You get the best of both. RWD and AWD when needed. Thr traction is awesome and if you want to play you turn off the VDC and ready to go. All the aftermarket parts fit in the X. You can lower it but don't put staggered wheel on it.

here is how I play sometimes( like once a week)http://youtube.com/watch?v=Zkb09Iq8mb8h ... kl...=user

To have X is more of a luxury Subie

Hi ZOZO, What tires are you using? I have a set of studded Hakka 2's 225x45x17 mounted on my stock BBS. I didnt sell them with the car. I know the wheels wont fit, but they are the best snow tire I have ever run. Cant wait to mount them up, and blast off into the Sierra's with the X. Looks like you were having a blast! Its good to know your car and its limitations when that white stuff comes. Jerry C

Jerry, zozo's vid's convinced me that I need an X for when my daughter heads to college next year. She will be in the NC mountains where they get snow.

I've driven from Sacramento to N. Shore Tahoe in July on 50.Don't think I would want to repeat in snow!!

we also saw a movie in truckee!

They are not even snow tires. They are only all season tires. Falken 912 all season. They do a really good job. As you can see. Right now I have front of my house about 5-6 feet of snow. Today I was talking to my neighbour and I did not see him. We were both shoveling snow. I think it was funny. I can't see his van from the ground. I see the top if I am standing on the front porch.

ok, i have neither the sdn or the suby but you made the right choice...Consumer Reports just named the G35 Sedan in the 10 ten best cars... next fall i might seriously consider trading for the sdn so keep us informed on how you like it.

I was thinking about you that time. There is a guy with the coupe 5 houses away from me. The garage was open I've seen the pearl White beauty. Anyways I was going out to have some fun with my son and the guy just yelling don't go don't go you'll stuck in the snow. Only one side of the road was cleaned. I just laughed and closed the door and wrooom. I stopped in the big pile of snow at the front of his house he's just like you are not going to make it you won't be able to start. So I just hammered it down there Zozo goes. Came back he says to me "Do you know if the coupe will conme in X sometimes?".

Next time I'll take him out for a spin.

I think you'll love the X more luxury and a little less sport than the suby. I think you and your wife will welcome the change! To me, it is the perfect balance for sport and luxury.

Thanks for all the assistance and advise. I have done a little research and I have found enough aftermarket goodies to make me Happy for a long time. Has anyone heard the APS catback in person(not the sound clip). It sounds a little loud on the clip. But it did sound good! I am now getting a very excited about my choice. I will have to wait until the 28th of March for my car to arrive. One more question. Am I paying too much for this car? 2008 G35SX, Preimum package, Sport package, Nav. package, Trunk liner, splash guards, Spoiler, and Freight. Total before Tax & Lic. $36,800.00 They say its about $900.00 below Invoice. I know nothing about Infinity pricing, but that seemed like a good deal to me. Your Thoughts ?

Thanks again to all who have posted!!! Jerry

Just picked up my 2008 G35X Sport last week. Premium package, with rear spoiler (had to be ordered) and paid $35K+ tax. Had my heart set on a BMW 335XI. With the same options the BMW would have stickered at $54K. Saw it as the most bang for the buck. Traded in my 02 VW Passat W8- decided to go Japanese for long termreliability. Wife has a 03 Subie Forester XT. Is a great car, quick and handles well. Drove WRXs before. Was considering a Legacy GT.Subies just feel "cheap". I am 40 with two kids and two babyseats. Who cares if the STI at the light will beat me? There is always somebody faster out there.I think Subie killed the look of the 08 STI since it is a hatch. If you really want a automatic pocket rocket the new EVO is real nice. For the same money I would much rather have my G 35XS.It is safe car, is fairly quick, handles extremely well, is luxurious, will be reliable, looks great (not like a KIDS car), ride is solid (I couldnt imagine driving an STI200 miles daily. Not to mention if you get a deal, it will be cheaper than the STI with much more options! Just my two cents.

Thanks HD, Thats 200 + mi. My 05 STI, purchased in 06 Had 92K mi. when I sold it. My 04 had 88K. & my 02WRX had over 100K. All in less than 2 years on each of them. I just decided, that if I had to spend 8+hrs a day in a veh., it better be fun to drive. I loved all three of those cars, and I accomplished exactly what I set out to do, I had fun every day I went to work! I am really feeling Good about the purchase of the G35. I am getting great feedback from other owners, and I am allready planning some easy mods. It sounds like you did a little bit better on the price than I did, but I think I will be Ok with it. Really cant wait for it to arrive. It also sounds like you shopped for the same cars I did. I almost bought the 328xi but I really liked the feel of the G better. The 335 was OUT of my league. (but I wanted it.) The EVO was a BIG dissapointment, and even with a fantastic deal ($36,080 OTD), I wouldnt even consider it. The only thing I liked about the EVO was the Recaro's. The IS 250 awd is "cute" but the Honda Civic, I am renting, is faster! Down to 2 vehs. 08 STI or G35SX. Time for a change !! My choice was the G35, with a little pressure from the Bride, who hates the 6 spd.. Thanks for your input!! Jerry C
