yeah. i could understand why you'd want an s13.

instead of wrenching endlessly on a car, you can simply put in brake pads and go.

trust me on this one, buy the 944 from your old man. thank me 10 years from now.

What about this:

The white 240 i listedversus1990 240sx hatch SE (full power, sunroof, cc) 143k miles on bodyhigh mileage ka24e (i would junk this for a ka24de)Stance GR+ Pro coilstein tie rod ends, tie rodstanabe sway barskazama tension rodsse-r wheelssparco racing seat with railstripped rear interior (my friend will give me his perfect condition interior for free)front bumper and fenders have minor bends (i have fenders and bumper to replace sitting in my garage)ALL FOR $1500!!!

This car ^^ my dad thought was a bad deal. He thought I should offer him $500. He doesn't understand the coilovers are $1200 alone. I could part the thing out and make at least a grand.

Why does everyone hate the single slammer? Geeez.

Let me say this AGAIN, if you're looking for a good build platform, DON'T BUY SOMEONE ELSE'S UNFINISHED PROJECT. Unless you really know them and the car inside out. Why do you think they're selling it?

Just for the record, your dad sounds like an intelligent man. I would listen to him a little more. I would definitely trust my own dad a little more than random people on a forum.

But hey, I'm just a random person on this forum right?

Basically a good chassis to work off of, not even the engine that was originally in the car. It's running on an old single cam out of my friends car with 244,xxx miles on it. The thing still runs like a champ! Yeah I think people don't give the single cams enough credit either.

don't be so quick to jump into a deal. if it sounds too good to be true it usually is. i bought a junker s14 with more rust than a s13 that spent winters in canada all its life. it had z brakes, coils, kouki skirts, 5 spd, 150k, se model, etc for 1500. i bought it to transfer the parts over to my car but they were so crappy and old and dirty i just didn't want them on my clean car.

ok that's a little different from what you are trying to do but the 90 hatch sounds similar to my situation. the white hatch looks clean though. why not look for a cheap shell like someone said? find one that has like blown head gasket and auto that no one will want since you plan to sr swap. either way i hope you can convince your dad and i'm not a fan of porsches but damn that thing looks brand new.

If you can make a grand from parting out the other car, then do so and have that money plus whatever else you have to buy a clean, stock, unmolested car. At least that way you can start from scratch. And yes, father knows best.

If my dad let me drive his shiny 944 when I was 16, I would probably still be driving it, or owned it and traded it for a 911.Probably one of the best things I like about my 240 is that it vaguely resembles a 944 .I understand wanting your own car.But there is no way you can complain when you are driving a 944 If your dad is a "Porsche guy" he is most likely allergic to pretty much anything asian/american/anything but a porsche.

You might have to wait until you are 18 in order to make your own bad decision

The most tricked out 240SX will still be a Nissan at the end of the day.Better than a Honda, or a WRX or anything else out there, but not a Porsche. In fact, the only way I'll ever consider selling my 240 would be for a 911.

Enjoy the porsche and say Hi to your dad

I'd say go for it, it looks in about the same condition plus some goodies, and I paid more for mine and it was a bone stock auto AND a SOHC. I understand not wanting to drive the Porsche, I would MAYBE as a second car. Like you said it would be wayyy too much to work on. It would be YOUR car not your dad's old car. People keep telling me to get rid of my car since it's 20 years old and I always work on it. If i got a new-ish car it would be a larger insurance payment and a car payment which I don't want. thus leaving no money for mods and such.

Yeah i've been lurking around reading up and researching for my s13 project but i have to add to this only cause i was in the same situation when i was 16. so i'll pop by cherry on my first official post on the forum.

I was gonna get my dads 84 944 when i was 16. honestly that car is probobly the best handeling car i have ever been in. dont get me wrong i love my s13 and had an 88 rx-7 too but that 944 was in a class all of its own. i would buy the 944, take car of it, and get an s13 or something down the line. i mean really, u'll regret passing it up in a few years

just leave your dad no room to say i told you so when something goes wrong... stay on top of the car... let it warm up before you drive... always look at that temp needle and make sure it stays on the 3rd needle...

Well, I bought the car. I've been wanting to get one for a long time now, and I have it now.

I agree with you guys talking about spoiled boys parading around in daddy's car. I don't want to come off as an ***hole, I just want my own car.

Here's a picture of it in my driveway the next day after getting it.

looks clean man! nothing like a white coupe thats for sure . does your dad own two 944s?? the one you posted before was champagne, and the one in this pic is white. btw, are they both turbo models, or S4's? either way both of those models kick asss. i will back up your argument on german engineering. i have a 98 bmw 540i. to do the rear suspension on this car i literally had to disassemble the entire rear interior of the car just to get to the top hat mounts. that took longer than the actual disassemble of the stock shlt, and installing the new bilstein/h&r race.

however, german engineering surpasses japanese engineering by far!!! i dont really know how to make a comparison for this, but lets just say ive owned all import cars since i was 15 (minus one domestic-96 z28), and now im on the bimmer. granted im 25 and have had about 12 cars in the past 10 years. they are a major PITA to work on, but when you dont have to work on them they are simply amazing cars (<----- there, thats what i wanted to say).

good luck with the 240 man, and keep it clean = no fiberglass

Thanks,It's the same car. It was just the lighting, but I do have to say the 944 is a great car. I like the 240 coupe though, it's my car ya know?

It's a 944 turbo.. Kind of one of my dad's sidetracked cars. He's got a new Dodge truck and a 73 Cuda he adores much more than the porsche.

The 240 from the 115-130ish mile drive back burnt no oil and got great gas mileage. The car runs awesome and it has working HUD. Everything works, body has no huge dents. Just tiny door dings. Going to run it through emissions on saturday and get plates. It was in oregon so I had to drive from washington to get it. But I'm only 20 minutes from Portland so it's no biggie. Going to be driving it next week..

Starting the mods with getting rid of the crappy s13 seats, kind of. I received a free passenger seat in great condition from a friend of a friend. Going to look at a Sparco seat tomorrow. The 944 turbo's seats are far superior to the 240sx seats so it's driving me nuts. Even though I've driven the car only from when I bought it.

I'm glad you decided to pick up the coupe man.

having your own car to do as you please has always been so important to me.

driving that porche must have been pretty fun,but nothing beats cruising in your own car and building it from the ground up

I had the same story. I would look at a 240 and my Dad would say no every single time. I got tired of waiting but it ended up being for the best. Trust your Dad he knows a lot more stuff then you do, he'll find the right car for you. I got my perfect 240 and I bet you will too.

He said no on a really good deal.. I still kick myself for some reason, even though he was the one that gave it the thumbs down. Just because it had a single cam.

But yeah, he was just turning down every single one because he hated the cars in the first place. This car with megan racing track series coilovers handles realllllllly good though. Rides like crap, but I'm one of those guys that doesn't care about ride so it doesn't bother me.

I am happy with this car though. Got it for even cheaper than I originally posted on here and all it needed was a power steering hose. It's fixed now and everything's good to go. Just need to run it through emissions. I know it'll pass because the car runs great and doesn't stink. I went from the 944 turbo to this and still, I know this car pulls good for what it is.
