I've had an ongoing struggle for months now.

I've got cash to buy a 240 I want, but as I'm under 18... I can't buy it without my father signing the bill of sale. I can say I've been wanting a 240 for over a year now. I have 2 friends with them, both are SR'd. I know their cars as well as they do and I'm a member of the local Nissan forum. My father seems to think every car is not a good deal and if it's not already sold then it's not a good deal. If that's the way he keeps thinking I will not own a 240 until I turn 18. I'm 16 right now and driving his porsche but I really want a car that is mine and I can work on.

To prove to him the car is a good deal, let me give an explanation of it and post replies so he can take somebody's word for it!

DESCRIPTION It costs $2,500.1991 240sx coupe SE (white)

160k milesFull power SEThe car is in good condition. There is no exterior damage. Megan Track series coiloversDrag 17" wheels

Apparently he is also putting in tension rods and tie rods.

Location: Pacific Northwest

Now tell me, is that not a good deal?

Find an S14.parents are usually more receptive to buy there teenagers newer cars versus older cars.

since your driving "HIS" Porsche, that i assume isn't beat to piss, then hed prob want to get you out of it and into a car.s14s are newer/safer/ etc..

but that 2500 is a pretty good deal for what they go for now-a-days

Pics would be very helpful. What is the rust situation? Autobox or 5-speed, etc? Based on other cars in your area, the price seems a bit low. I would be on the look out for potential problems. I would do a thorough once over on the car, test drive and ask for a compression test

The porsche is in realllllly good condition. It's a nice car, but not my style. I'm afraid of something happening to it and I would rather not be fearing all the time. I'm always around helping my friend work on his sr20 and I definitely like nissans. The porsche is far too hard for me to work on.

Thanks but that's not what I'm going for! I'm just asking if you guys think it's a fair deal. By the way, it's a 5 speed for whoever asked. As far as rust goes, it looks nonexistent. If it is there, then I don't see it. I have a ton of pictures of the car.

Another car was through a friend. 90 240 hatch 143k miles. Full SE with sunroof. 5 speed. Stance GR+ Pro coilovers. Tanabe swaybars, tein tie rods, tie rod ends, kazama tension rods. B14 Sentra SE-r wheels. It has some dings and bends on the front bumper and fenders. But that's why I have a whole front end of a 240 in my garage that I bought for 100 bucks (pignose). With pignose lip! The car had a silvia front on it prior, so he just threw on whatever he had sitting around. That's why it would have the light damage. And to top it all off the price is 1500 dollars

I'm trying to do a project of my own. It's just kind of to keep myself going. I'm a junior this year and next year I'll have AP classes and anything that's difficult in my schedule. A working project would keep me sane.

If I were to at all start modifying the porsche, it would cost me an arm, leg, and anything else.

$2500 maybe be a litte expensive with it having 160k miles. Ive bought 3 mostly stock S13's never paid over $2000, but it may be a little different in WA...

I did a quick search, and it seems like the price is low compared to other cars in your vicinity. That is why I said beware of potential issues. More than likely, the rust is there unless the previous owner(s) took good care of the car or you are lucky. IMO buy the car with the least mods and make it your own. Build>Buy. Good luck man.

compare the price of the car you want with other 240's on the market to show him its a good deal, also show him the price of coilovers / other suspension parts.

By the way ChampaignSilviaS14.. nice rabbit signature. That reminds me, my dad is also a Volkswagen Rabbit owner! He has been longtime into vw's. He also has a new dodge ram 3500. I hope this gives everybody a better profile on him. He's hated these cars since I first showed them to him. He's willing to sign on the sale, but he wants me to get one for basically pennies. He thinks they're worth next to nothing.

I would buy an S14 but a stock S14 5-speed in Washington is $4000+

Please don't take your old man's Porsche. No 16 year old (including myself) deserves a mint condition 944 as their first car. That's just asking for trouble.

S13's are ok if you're not stupid with them though. But the no airbags thing can be a turnoff to some. Plus the lack of abs (one some) and the other things that don't come with an older car.

I can't really tell from the pics what kind of condition it's in but I'm sure you and your dad aren't stupid and can decide for yourselves.

I agree w/ derrick113. That 240 is overpriced. Look for another one w/ a lower price.Do you really want one that runs or just the shell? You say your friends have SR20s.Well, try to find one (in excellent condition) just with the shell. Save a little and get the SR. Convince your father that it'll be a (fun) build and an investment. You gotta make sure that it'll be a sure deal.

I fully understand this, but it was either a mint porsche or a 1984 volkswagen rabbit with rust all over, champagne/gold (messed up paint) and basically anything wrong is wrong. Tell me, what would you choose? That's what I thought. Even before that, I've been wanting a 240.

About S13's having no airbags and abs. The porsche has no airbags and abs.. so that really doesn't matter.

To Steady_One_S13 saying I should get an sr20: 240's with sr20's out here are running for at least $5k in okay condition typically with drift rash. A good deal will be 4k-5k but there will usually be a catch involved. At this point, I'm about ready to fly to california and buy one then drive it back for all I care. But then the price of a plane ticket and gas defeats the price of the cheaper car. So I have to work with what I have out here.

CA is the last place I'd go to look for a clean 240. But who the hell am I to criticize, that's where I got mine!

What I would try to do is find a BONE STOCK 240 with zero done to it. Try as hard as you can to find a buyer that knows nothing about what they have and has no idea what all the rage is for these little secretary cars. Chances are if it already has mod(s) of any kind on it, it's been beaten on more than a few times. A clean engine bay or a decent interior can be very deceiving.

Take your time. Test drive a few to get the feel of what they're like. Don't jump on the first one you see, there will always be another. You'll know once you find the one for you.
