help me diagnose my subframe bushings (pics)

so i took some pics, does this seem normal to you guys to have this much space inbetween the bushing and the frame when the car is jacked up?



the bushing still seem to look good. its just the spacing inbetween the bushing and the frame that messes me up.

where are you jacking it up from?

this is mine when jacked up by the pumpkin

you can see both the ones on the right in this one

and yes.. i know.. my bushings are rotting

you can try compare it to mine.. the only problem ive had with my subframe is the bushings themselves.

it'd help to have someone elses for reference tho

I noticed the same gap while I was doing my 5 lug swap. I had the car on jackstands on the frame rails (not subframe). I assume this means the bushings are shot as I also have a loud clunk when braking hard. Can anyone else confirm this?

Remove this cap and look inside. See if rubber bushing is torn apart. Depends on the condition, you can use collars or have to go for new bushings.

Since he lives in a borough of NYC, I'm just going to go out on a limb here and say they are shot to all hell. Ten yrs, NY roads, and snow+salt is plenty of time and abuse for that kouki's rubber bushings to be detoriated to some extent.

The inner shaft inside the rubber part of the bushing is tightened up to the frame with the nut like it should be. But it appears the rubber connecting the inner bushing shaft to the outer part of the bushing has failed. You need new bushings before they completely tear and your subframe is completely supported by the front diff bolts.

Why your car is changing lanes unexpectedly is because your subframe bushings are allowing the entire subframe to twist and point away from straight. It is similar to having rear steering except it involves the entire subframe and is lacking in the control department.

Replace the bushings.

im gona try the collars b/c im lazy and i look at the bushings and i saw no tears in them just alot of play. so im hoping the spacers will fill up the gap...

nyc roads kill my car...
