hey all first off heres the model im thinking bout buyin http://autotrader.com/findacar...=1368 now that uve seen that , i must add that im really brand new to the car scene and no not too much about powering my car up. but i definetly want it to be super fast , at least faster than anyones i know. so thats like a 12.5 sec run. what do i need to add to acheive this from stock to custom. all i know is ill get turbo , prolly nos at the end. i wanna get a engine swap too. what i need to know is , what parts should i get to acheive this? i mean i need everything pointed out and shown to me cause im a doofus , intake , exhaust , turbo , new engine , but i know there is much more needed and i dont know what brands or which specific parts. please help , thanks everyone :) eventually ill wanna replace almost everything in the car with specialty parts , but that will be over much time. also to help you help me , i wanna be able to roll round town whenever for daily things , but be able to smoke the crap out of someone talking smack that thinks hes badass. not just a little , i wanna smoke em all the way so they feel worthless. the car itself costs 3 g's and id like to put like 10-15 thou more into it over awhile.

thanks for the compliment, its in the beggining stages for right now, but im workin on it...can only move as fast as money comes my way!

Do you have experience with turbos? if not, i would recomend obtaining a copy of Maximum Boost By Corky Bell and reading up on that, its full of good info. As for intake and exhaust, ure not goin to use a regular intake system if ure running a turbo, and theyre are many good exhausts for turbo cars offered by such companies as Apex'i, Blitz, HKS, etc. those companies also carry electronics and gauges beneficial on a turbo car...sorry if this leaves a lot of questions unanswered, im just too tired right now (sorry, im fightin to keep my eyes open, lol)

alright man,

first of all, if you're going to have a fast car, and if you care about the respect of anyone who knows about cars, than you need to know about cars yourself. prices, brands, and a timeline for whatever goals you want to acheive should ALL start with a really really good understanding of your car and how it works. go to http://www.howstuffworks.com, and read about how engines are put together and how they run-- get some books and read them, or better yet work on your current car (or a friend's?). even if it's just changing oil, you need to understand what's going on under the hood (and elsewhere), and be ready and comfy with most of the operations of your car.

AFTER that, start thinking about parts and engines and all the rest. I dont mean to be rude or anything, but honestly man if you think you're going to buy a turbo and THEN get a new engine- you dont know enough about cars to be buying parts yet. do some research, listen to what people who know have to say, and learn slowly. that's my advice.

good luck with everything man, and welcome to the boards.

Doesn't seem like too much of a bad deal if the car has a clear title, and if the body, engine, and interior are in good shape and so forth, but I would try haggling with the salespeople a bit if I were you. But if you know that you're gonna swap the interior from now, then just try to find something a little cheaper, not a complete beater though.

as for you goal of a 12.5sec run,

1. There's a big red button at the top right of the screen that says "SEARCH", you will definetly want to use this before asking anything on this board. you also want to check out the FAQ page

2. Start learning as much as you can about cars, start with the basics. Do you know how a car works? (I'm not trying to insult your intelligence, but if you want to make 12 sec runs you should definetly know what gets your car to do that). Hey, you might not know anything about cars, but at least you admitted it, unlike many other anonymous ricers I know.

3. You will definetly need forced induction to get to 12sec. with a usdm 240sx (united states domestic market, as opposed to the JDM or japanese domestic market versions of our cars, the Silvia s13, s14,s15, and 180sx, which already come with the turbocharged sr20det motor). skip the nos though. The 2 main routes taken to with 240's are usually getting the aforementioned sr20det engine swap, or turbocharging the ka24de engine that comes in the car you were planning to buy. Each setup has its pro's and con's, use the search button.

4. Just some personal advice, don't get too hung on people who talk smack about cars. you shouldn't be building this car for the sole purpose of beating suckas down, you should be doing this for the pure enjoyment of it. People who talk smack are usually very petty and narrow-minded. 240's are incredibly sweet and awesome cars to own, but they're not supra's or rx-7's. There's always gonna be someone out there who can smoke you. If you want a car that looks sweet, handles well, has great power-making potential, and is just an all around fun car, then a 240sx is a great choice. But if your looking for something that can "smoke em all the way so they feel worthless", you might wanna rethink your goals. It all depends on how much money your willing to put into your car.

Best of luck!

let me ask somthing else , is the 240 sx for me , take these things into consideration , i want a car that looks better than most do , hence the sporty looking appeal , but not overdoing it and at the same time have a really fast car that will be the winner if it comes to it.

another reason im into the 240 is because the car itself is only 3,000 dollars for a 91 , now thats my price range. because all the real money is going into modifications.

if u want a car that is just all out, non-questionable, all-dominating, flat-out speed...look into MKIV (93.5-98) Toyota Supras, FD-3S RX-7s (93-97), Z32 300ZX (90-96) and the other 'super cars' ..... sorry if im not getting wat ure saying, im super tired but cant sleep.

looks are up to you man, if you like it, you like it. my vote is obviously for the 240... but I have to admit I'm a little biased...;)

as for the price- yeah its pretty sweet, huh? an excellent bargin, in my opinion! ;) keep in mind though, that speed will NOT come cheap... and if you cut corners anywhere, you're gonna pay for it later... the 240 CAN become a monster, just like any other car can, but dont expect to be without it's costs or problems..

if ure on an extremely tight budget, then ure not goin to be able to build/maintain an all dominating car. But u can build one to be fairly fast if thats all u want from the car. My advice, no matter wat car u get is to read about all the links/books wingzero, fiznat, and myself have already posted, and also make sure that u dont skip on braking if ure goin to have that much power, u'd be surprised how many ppl are under-braked(sp)....

its the Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4... its the AWD TT version...most of the versions u'll be able to find for cheap are the N/A SL's.

well pretty much making a normal car like the 240 a pimp one is what im going for , wont try to beat vipers or anything but i wanna be faster than most people. obviously im not getting near the 50,000 dollars sports cars , but for a real fun car that has some power i think it will be cool. and i wanted it to not be so common , unlike the neon driving wanna-be's i want my **** to legit at the same time.
