dsm's are very cheap to get a lot of power out of, a boost controller and exhaust and you are runnin mid to low 14's. thats why they are so popular. once you start the tuning though, things go wrong. the oem mas is a problem along with the foot or so of ribbed rubber in between the mas and turbo. especially on older dsms, that rubber has infinite potential to crack or get holes in it. therefore it is sucking unmetered air and REALLY screwing up a/f ratios in the computer. this is very prone to happening and is something that is rarely thought about. then if you put on an exhaust or bigger turbo, then your computer starts going crazy and you can actually lose power. im not exactly sure how it all works, but it is not good. my most reliable dsm was my '93 gst. this will be long, but here is what was done:6 bolt block out of a '91 gsx, JE pistons, eagle rods, double valve springs, HKS 264 cams, busher cam gears, custom lightend/balanced crank, p&p head w/ 3 angle valve job, custom ex. mani, cyclone IM, ported 20g w/ ported o2 housing, custom 3 1/2 turbo back exhaust w/ magnaflow muffler, no cat, free mods, hks ground wires, Bushur FMIC, custom i/c pipes, hks bov, apexi super afc, 9mm race wires, one step colder ngk plugs, msd ignition system, 720cc injectors, 255lph fuel pump, custom 3"stainless intake pipe, GM mas w/ translator, phantom front lsd, equal length halfshafts, kyb agx's w/ eibach springs, 17x8 motegi wheels, yokahama paradas, powerslot discs, hawk pads, stainless brake lines, stainless oil feed line, fluidyne radiator, hks headgasket, palm pocketlogger (very good idea, highley recommend this for any car), hks electronic boost controller/turbo timer set at 20psi give or take, lightened flywheel and cm stage 3. i think that is about it. some of the stuff came on the car when i got it, but i spent around $3500. some of the stuff was used. the car ran great most of the time, got OK gas mileage, was REALLY loud, and faster than pretty much anything. i sold it cuz it started burning oil and was very scary to drive. plus it was time to move on to a 240, finally!!!!!!!!!

anyway, this is a nissan site, but if anyone has questions regarding dsms, ill gladly help w/ what i can!!!!!!!!!!!!

and thanks for all the good comments, ive already learned a lot about my car and have only been here a couple days.
