I won't speak to the others, but gaffes aside, most Congressional insiders give Joe Biden credit on two main points:

1. Before being picked for VP, he was one of the most knowledgable Senators serving, and
2. He knows where everyone's skeletons are kept.

Those are what made him a great VP pick. On stage, Biden may look and sound like a liability, but he's probably an asset when there aren't cameras and microphones pointed at him.

Good point. When the cameras weren't around, Palin ran a pretty good Alaska too. But in some ways she's still an idiot.

Yeah, I'm not sure. If memory serves, she had some really shady practices up there, suggesting corruption.
