Hey guys - I just noticed something. On the driver's side of my trunk, the floor gets HOT as HELL after driving... I had some football equipment in there, and some plastic pieces actually MELTED from the intense heat. The floor gets so hot you can't touch it. I even have a layer of that reflective insulating blanket under the trunk mat to redirect heat AWAY from the trunk compartment, to no avail.

The passenger side doesn't get hot, so I'm assuming this is muffler heat.

Is there some sort of shield missing or do I have an exhaust problem?

It does get warm from that muffler (still stock?), but never noticed that hot. But I haven't tested. Makes you wonder about the spare cooking on one side.

That it does...

Still stock, but I'm thinking if it's gonna be that hot, it might be time to swap it out for a stainless Magnaflow straight-thru design.

I've never noticed anything cooking in my trunk... is the heat shield still in place above the resonator?

Is it normal to have a fairly hot middle console after driving for a while? I noticed that right where your right leg rests against the console (right below and to left of the radio/deck), it has gotten hot on both occasions that I was on long trips of a few hours.

Just make sure you flip the spare. If there's anything i hate it's a spare cooked on one side and raw on the tother!

I have noticed it is warm in the trunk, but never to the point of melting plastic! That sounds way too hot!

Those Eibach's must make it tougher to look under the car! :)

The blanket won't help quite as much if objects are in direct contact with it. The reflectiveness is to defeat radiation, but conduction is a much more efficient heat transfer mechanism. A layer of rubber or fiberglass would help more probably. Think high "R-value". I bet either the heat shield is missing or your exhaust is bent and it's touching the body.

Hmmm. Good points.

The exhaust is definitely not too close to the body - Actually, I've been planning to go to a muffler shop to have them cut off and move the "hooks" that hang the rear muffler as I think it hangs a tiny bit too low.

Is there supposed to be a heat shield under there?

That is the transmission... And I suppose it could be normal for a few hours of driving..... As long as its not too bad......

Normal... Remeber there's a lot of hot exhaust components in that area too.

There's a big one on mine... I wouldn't think they'd change that on later models.

Don't know if you already solved the problem, but a catalytic converter that is beginning to clog can be the cause of increased heat.

Well it won't matter soon.

I'm having a full-stainless 2.5" mandrel-bent BRM system built from the manifolds back with faux cats, an X-pipe and true duals with Flowmasters... :D WOO HOO!!!

Better yet, just order the system - Mine's gonna be the first, then BRM will have them available in kit form.

Is it going to have quick release for the cats so I can put some real cats in when I'm not "racing"?

Actually, you can have it with regular cats in place. Better to either HAVE them or NOT HAVE them...

Mine will LOOK like it has them, but.... :firedevil

Then keep your cats and go cat-back.

I'll post here when it's done.

(If your car runs clean enough you shouldn't NEED cats except for visual inspection... Mine will be "straight-through" shells...
