Long time no see, NICO.
Well, after a long summer/autumn of time in the hospital (1 month + another month & 1/2 of not being able to walk <pic>), physical therapy, and working a boring job as a technical assistant at a TV station, I'm leaving in 2 weeks to live in Vail, CO for the winter, being a lifty.

This is goodt.

Howeva! As I'll be riding 3 days a week (For Free!) I have a need for new headphones. Over the last few years I've had badt luck with headphones, mostly with earbuds or over-the-ear phones. I'd really like some advice on a decent, full-sized, pair. Preferably with a on-the-cable volume control, and it can't be over $50.

I've got some Bose Tri-ports that would be decent if you could find some for under $50... no inline volume control though. I kinda beat the crap out of mine and they still work great. Not the GREATEST sounding things I've ever heard, but they are comfy as hell.

Im no headphone master- but I have a bit of experience.

I personally own Monster Turbines, they were an impulse buy a few days before i went on a 2 week trip to Peru. They more(alot more) than you wanted to spend, they're about $170 Canadian. I bring this up because the headphones are great yes-but Monster has treated me great!
After i got back from Peru I accidentally cut the headphone cord in half in my trucks door(stupid move). The store I bought them at told me to buck up and buy a new pair, even though the salesman(and that he was) pitched me all about they're great warranty.

I emailed monster and for the $11 it cost me to ship them to the repair center- they sent me a brand new-un opened-non-refurbished pair for free.

I would recommend spending a little more, dig deep and get the Monster lil' Jamz. They're MSRP $90. But the warranty is awesome, they may possibly be the last pair of headphones you ever buy. My turbines sound GREAT, i have little experience with the lil' jamz but im sure they sound great if Monster makes them(im not a monster fan boy- but they've treated me great and make a great headphone).

I passionately hate them, not because they're Bose, but because they're unjustifiably expensive and sound like they're covered in 10 layers of socks.

10 layers? Maybe 1... Certainly not bad enough to where you can't overcome it with EQ settings.

Also keep in mind that these will be beaten pretty hard. I don't need perfect sound quality, since wind, scraping ice, etc. will be dulling the sound. I want something that'll hold up to me taking a few spills.

You are a bad person. (I'm a can snob.)

Honestly, the best all-purpose headphones I've ever owned are my $35 Koss Portapros. I have some pretty impressive Grados and Sennheisers, and I've been tempted to indulge in some ultra-high-end stuff from Beyerdynamic and other brands, but I decided I've gone as far as I want to go as the hobby can suck you in and rob you blind.

Jesda has taken over my place as resident headphone prick, and he speaks the truth.

Portapros are rad.

^ He doesn't need the best headphone in the world here....

Skullcandy headphones are good for snowboarding and what not because if they break they will replace them. I have gone through DOZENS of pairs of them riding. They have replaced every pair.

Never used skull candy phones, but I have two pairs of shure earbuds and love both. One pair has lasted 5-6 years now under normal use. The other is still going strong after 3 years of heavy (10ish times per week) gym use. While expensive, they seem to hold up well and perform (and no, I don't have the $500 pairs).

I don't own any over-the-ear phones anymore, but when I have used them I've developed a fondness for Sennheiser.

The above is no more than my personal preference

Skullcandy is the Lexus of the headphone world: Overpriced because of the name recognition, but very average performance.

It's hard to lose with Shure, but their prices are a little scary. They're worth it if you can afford it though.
As a guy who has worked with Shure sound equipment professionally, the name inspires a lot of confidence.

:yesnod

hellz ya. my experience with them...

-bought a $120 pair of shure buds in 2005.
-in 2007 cord split where it curves over the back of your ear, shure's manufacturers warranty covered it. replaced free of charge.
-Still use them today for lawn work, gym, and at my desk at work. best $120 I ever spent, I would have easily went through 3 or more pairs of $40 buds in the meantime, and not even come close to the sound quality. worth every single penny if you can afford the initial investment, they'll last you forever! (not literally. adam. looking @ u...)

I've owned a set of V-Moda Vibes (not the Vibe II) for the last 3 years and they kick a**. The sound quality is awesome and the construction quality is great. Plus they're around your price range. Senheiser, Beyerdynamic (my fav) and Sure all make amazing products. For over the ear noise canceling I rock the Creative Aurvana X-Fi's and regular/studio over the ear I put on my AKG-240's.

the best pair i've ever owned is a set i bought for $10... they're loud... they have amazing bass response for the mixes i listen to... and they're easily replaceable....

the problem is they are nothing fancy.... just a set of earbuds that sound like sex... no on cord controls or anything

they're wicked empire brand... no idea on what they're called anymore though

Radio Shack has a generous extended warranty. They sell rebadged Koss headphones. Its been 9 years, but I bought a pair of Optimus-branded Koss Titaniums and paid $15 for a warranty. The warranty covered EVERYTHING including INTENTIONAL damage, but it doesn't cover wear and tear.

I went into a Radio Shack with my headphones and my warranty certificate a few months later and asked the guy if I could get some foam ear pads since mine were damaged and torn. He said my warranty didn't cover wear and tear, only physical breakage. I was a bit annoyed.

So, I took my headphones out to the parking lot right in front of the store window, backed over them a couple times, and brought them back as a pile of metal and plastic pieces. He was stunned, but he got me a free replacement pair right away.

Try $30, and those headphones suck.

I have these...
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDR-EX56LP-B ... 396&sr=8-1

Have had them for about a year and I absolutely love them. They're cheap, and cancel noise really well. I also usually have a problem with earbuds popping out, but these stay in really well and are VERY comfortable. I used them for about 40 hours straight when I drove from Phoenix to Plano, TX and back.

Ok, I know everyone really likes to just put in their 2 cents regardless of the parameters, but honestly, you aren't useful.
They must be:
1.) Full Size - This means NOT Earbuds
2.) Under $50
3.) Durable

It would be nice if they
1.) Had an inline volume control

They don't need to
1.)Sound perfect

Everything anyone has suggested that doesn't fit that is just being distracting.

Its one thing to ask for advice. Its another to feel entitled to it. This is not your concierge shopping service. Its a discussion forum. If people talk about other brands and styles of headphones in a headphone thread, deal with it. You could just politely say, "but what about this criteria," instead of being an Image about it. But if you did, you wouldn't be you, and I'd wonder who hijacked your account.

I'll tell anyone to DIAF when they're being a racist prick. Period. But I'm not going to get into it as it's a locked/moved thread (a rule that you seem to have overlooked...).

1.) I don't see how saying "This isn't helpful, or on topic." and restating the criteria is being an a$$.
2.)
