i know this will get moved but i understand why....just wanted most of you to see it first in case u dont know where to look....

after all the talk of leds in the ac's headlight.....its finally realized....i put the carbon fiber away for a night...and dove into my prototype light......paint aint final...but it's color coded for the presc grey..with semi gloss black on the crome parts...

the leds and their holders will be countersunk into it

here it is....just a tease....but its real....

lol... i wouldnt have even bought these things then, your got it down, wait for the parts.. why do it twice?

But this is all speculation as "our headlights cant be opened" *IM JOKING* but sad i was told that.

i also wouldnt take any out, maybe go smaller and add more! You saw the pictures i got of that audi headlight from HIN. What about mounting a SMT led strip across the brim?

Something like this..http://www.oznium.com/led-ribbon/action

I like your thinking... do us all a favor and take out that handy kodak of yours *joke* and take some pictures in the process! I know you can make a great DIY out of this, dont be lazy!

Im goin to sleep.. and leaving this in the coupe forum as our headlight is different from the sedan.

I wonder how many posts this will have tomorrow

?..you always prototype buddy!...and this is one of "our headlights"....as u can see....it is indeed open!

i was looking at those strips...the light is not as directed as these...these are a 30 degree spread...head on they are bright as hell....off to the side...nice and subtle...

i could see dangeris doing this... painting his enlosures black, and the LED holders red like rivets in a wheel... it makes a lot of other things possible... DIY OR DIE!

some people had trouble baking the lights (some parts began to melt and so on). what if you used a heat gun? those things can get really hot and you can sort of direct the heat at a certain area AKA the silicon and just heat that and pry it open. what do you guys think? my friend has a heat gun and i'm going to try and do it to my lights but the only question is when? i want to see how the LEDs come out and everything. i dont want to end up opening my lights several times. plus is it illegal in california to put the LEDs in your light?

Then I guess the Audi RS8 is banned from being sold on Cali since its whole headlight assembly is done with LEDs

..well my engineering friend...its a tough answer....cause it aint linear..meanig the peice has a slight bevel to the face...which is why flat light wont do well...they'd end up point up..not out...there is a notch back where the part goes from the high beam sec to the low beam sect..theres a "curl" at the outermost part...but if ya wanna now the true dim of the length...(firgured by string trace) its 29.4 cm..including the curl..or 11.574803 in...which is rougly...11 11/32 give or take a 64th...the face bevel appears to be 70 degrees

Dang, great job, you should really considering doin projector retrofit at the same time, cause eventually you'll want to, and instead of opening it again in the future, i'd say do it now :D

Gry, always nice to see someone take acrack at a custom mod.. but I see one glaring problem that I'm surprised no one has pointed out!

you put your LED's down where the low and high beam are at... Thus, when you ride durin the day (when the low beams are off) no one will see your LED's because its day time, however, when you ride at night when you low beams are on... well... no one will see the LED's because the brightness of the headlight (especially if you have HID's) will dwarf the LED's.

This is a great concept, its just that the LED placement appears to be very bad and pretty much void.... am I the only one that sees this???
