I'll reserve any more comments until you have the final product done... you say you'll mount them "in" that piece, so my guess is you're going with the 3mm led's and drill holes and mount them inside that piece... that will look good! I will wait until you finish , looking forward to it!

these are rough sketches see how i mean "set in"? look at your rim in ur light ...see thoes detail indents in it...theres 6..im thinking of cuting into thoes...and setting my leds and holders there...the only issue is the last two on the interior are not equal spaced...

That's exactly what I'm doing! I have my 3MM LEDs ready to go!

u saw my dims u requested right?...i was thinking of 3mm but i this it might get lost...i want them dominant..on or off....hence...the "bullet belt" look i went for.......i might just use 9mm shell casings as led holders!..yea thats gansta shiat rite dea....fo realz..werd lol...

N-E-Way, I was curious as to wy you used the resistors, what resistors did you use and to what overall impedence?

i say go with more led's so it would follow the contour of the line

GryStrm wrote:..well my engineering friend...its a tough answer....cause it aint linear..meanig the peice has a slight bevel to the face...which is why flat light wont do well...they'd end up point up..not out...there is a notch back where the part goes from the high beam sec to the low beam sect..theres a "curl" at the outermost part...but if ya wanna now the true dim of the length...(firgured by string trace) its 29.4 cm..including the curl..or 11.574803 in...which is rougly...11 11/32 give or take a 64th...the face bevel appears to be 70 degrees
i did a relay of leds ..4 sets of two using 100oms per series..u need the resistors to handle the power of the source...in this case..a 9v...so each led in a set takes 3.5...or 7v for the set...so u have to caontrol the other 2 volts...when i do my final model...itll need to handle at least 13.8 to 14...the power of the car while running...so ill bump my resistors...to 330's...

that looks amazing, I do think it needs at least one more led towards the right side, looks a little off balance to me :p (right in the pic, towards the center of the car)

ya well its sort of like, you could custom make an intake but it'll be illegal. or you could spend a lot more and get the same thing but with a CARB number and it wont be illegal. California is stupid about stuff like that. i mean even blake was talking about the reason why Stillen doesn't do stuff with our lights is because then it wont be DOT approved and they could get sued or something. so just wondering if it's illegal or not to do it yourself

like i said in another post.....now that our 08's have been out for a while...and some have met with an early collision dimise...collision yards...even if the light is slightly scratched....get it...if u get ur design and technique down using that....then get a clean set and mod that as your final...dont rush is the key get it right make it work....and make sure itll last...they will draw a s load of attention....and you dont want it slopy...

Thanks for the advise I think thats the best idea, question for you though, while I can pick your brain, when you are done how are you going to draw power to the LEDs?? And what is the voltage and amperage coming from said source?

Also are you doing, this is an example but; 3 LEDs in a set in series and then having three sets in parallel?? So 9 leds all the way across??

power wil be from the deleted running light....i will have the leds set up to take a volt rage from 12 to 14 with the help of resistors...my target vlt will be 13.5..which is about norm for a running vehicle...and the leds will be at their brightest at this vltage..

In my opinion, I think getting a spare headlight to play with would be a waste of time and money. Sure you can plan out where to start to open the light but when it comes down to it, you can open the test light up with no problem and F**K up your good ones.

I think the key is what Gry pointed out! Take your time and read and re-read the forums to see where others would have done different!

Looks great Gry. Are you running the LEDS in series or parallel?

I am gonna try to get a good set, and do my work on that, that way I can still drive the car while I work on the headlights

ya have to run em in series...leds in parallel need too much power and wont fire..assuming...ur using over 5 and each will draw 3.5vlt...(5x3.5= >15) so u have to do series...mine are 2 sets of 4..each set is drawing 7 vlt.. (2x3.5=7)heres a handy tool.....just remember...ur car when on and running...she can throw as much as 14 vlts! maybe even a hair over!
