Some people use stock headgaskets, other use a Cometic metal headgasket.

To me, it makes more sense in using a stock headgasket for high boost (25psi'ish). Since you will have to go with forged pistons anyways, it'll act as your "fuse" when something goes wrong. And I would rather replace a headgasket over a piston anyday of the week.

only person I knew with cometic blew his ring lands as soon as he detonated. its more common to blow the stock headgasket.

Felpro makes a very nice headgasket as well, in my unsubstantiated opinion: better quality than OEM.

Stock has held up to 30psi and not blown...as well as stock head bolts.

If you wanna upgrade, great. But realize that stock is pretty damn good...

Stock is fine...detonation will destroy your motor no matter what HG you have. The only time I can see switching is to use a thicker HG to lower the compression.

Don't know if this will help, but Hussey makes a copper head gasket for our engine, and it is designed for up to 30psi. And, you can get them in different sizes, as well. I got mine from Import Performance Parts .com --- Although I haven't assembled the engine yet. Mine is stock size. It looks very durable though. I am not sure if they can be reused (ie take the head off and on more than once). I have heard some metal gaskets, like HKS, can be reused... but unsure on this.

copper is too much of a pita for the street. might be good for a race motor. 30 psi would be a race motor anyway.

What do you all recommend for going thicker (to lower comp a tiny bit, prolly at leist 1.2mm after .020 resurface or so) without going metal?

I haven't heard of any other way to drop a little bit (obviously w/out lower comp pistons or overbore) other than metal HG's. Is there anything felpro or anyone else makes thats just a little thicker than stock?

I reused mine 4 times with no compression loss.

I used a 2mm on my RB20, my math geek buddy figured it was close to a full point lower.

hmm, ya Ive done that in the past on my DSM and Supra. I figured that going metal is the only real way to get a thick gasket. I was just hoping someone woudl chime in and be like, "felpro makes a special HG part#xxx, but you have to call to get it"

I guess Ill be stickign with stock CR. THanks

Go with the Cometic. You won't regret it..... Stock one is good, but cometic is better IMO.

And no, the felpro headgasket is not better. It's exactly the same, just $30 cheaper from autozone!

Hmmmm, really? I haven't seen any NEW stock ones, only used ones. One thing I noticed on both of the KA's I've torn down is pitting on the surface of the block in a pattern that is mirrored on the headgasket. Thats why I opted not to use a stock one again, i figured perhaps the felpro wouldn't do that. The felpros just seem really nice to me :)

Anyone used the SCE copper gasket for ka24de? http://www.cyberauto.com/index.php/Nissan240SX.txt about 7/8th of the way down the page. Prices look good and variety of thicknesses.

As far as good oem type aftermarket headgaskets, I would suggest an ITM or ROL gasket over a fel-pro anyday. Felpro does not make the greatest gaskets, we've compared a lot, and do not install felpros on any of our rebuilt engines.

For a top of the line oem type replacement gasket in standard thickness, check out rolmfg.com. BTW. they also carry replacement headbolts for ka24e/de. I use this headgasket/headbolt combo on my 2.5l (91.1mm bore). Specs of the gaskets are perfect (i compared about 5 different headgaskets to use on my engine, including a blue line felpro)
