I gotta give you respect for doing all the sound deadenin stuff, I dont think I would have the patience to do all that! You should do a write up on the shim installation since I want to do that to my VLSD to get a 2way action

Keep it coming

sorry for the pretty newbish question but why do you remove the sound deadening? less weight? And when you do so does it make a huge difference in the loudness of the inside of your car? slap me if you wish

alright well i covered it a million times but obviously you are slow

im removing it because i have rust.

im replacing it with new material

how do you not get that "sound deadening" it blocks the noise from suspenison travel, motor, transmission, exhaust etc and absorbs the heat from the mechanical aspects of the car

alright small update:

i reassembled my diff after cleaning the housing and painting it. needs some touch-up spots but overall its pretty good.

helical looks great in the pumpkin, and should feel nice with my test drive on my way to my friend's for bodywork.

to those asking how hard the swap is, is simple once you get the pumkin out. its putting it back on thats a pain in the a**. i managed to get it by myself, but a second set of hands would've been nice. you gotta line up the two axles first, due to the way the lock together. i made the mistake of trying to bolt it to the subframe first.

tommorow i need to tighten everyting up back there and ill be good to go. I was running late to work.

the diff in the car

heres a shot of the drivers side floor, with my wiring finished until i pull the dash. its basically without the US seatbelt wiring and all that junk goin to their control box.

cutting it out and welding in patches.

its goin to my friends tommorow...

hes gonna do most of it, im gonna probably drop the gas tank, and rear subframe and take it home to rebuild it while he does my welding work.

ill help him when i get time, but he just asked for a timeframe and will have more access to work on it a little at a time.

I like your choice of diff colors. I'm glad I'm saving my hlsd. Did you get yours from ebay like most of us? lol. When I got mine it came with some JDM candy!Awesome job on the sound deadening removal. That was down the road on my long list.

jeff, do u know if the forward drivers side subframe mount on the old car is solid? mines rusted to hell - that bolt that comes down.

i may head over tommorow to snap some pics. The gas tank and rear subrframe are at my house, and will be torn down this week.
