I finally got a chance to race a stock GST tonight!!! I must say, the 240 did very well. I know, I know, most if not all of you look down on street races, but, he started it!! Without going into all the details and writing a big long story, I'll try to keep it short and to the point. We raced from a light, rolled off til about 15mph in 1st, he hit it, I hit it, I had him by about 2 cars at the top of 2nd gear, he gave up. Then, he showed his true colors, a born cheater. See, he had his G/F with him, so, I KNEW this was coming, I've seen it too many times. He's flasing his high beams at me from way back there as I'm cruising after the race. I slow down, he FINALLY pulls beside me. I gear down to 3rd, he does nothing, keeps slowing down, I start to gear down to 2nd, he floors it, I floor it after I get it in gear, start to pull back beside him, go to shift to 3rd and I FREAKING MISSED IT!!! Recovered quickly, start to gain back on him, close to the top of third, he hits his brakes. I blew it the second time. I'm not all that used to this car's clutch/transmission yet. I need to move my seat up a lil, it would definitly help with being quicker with the clutch. I havn't tried power shifting this car yet, but, I will real soon. I could powershift like mad in my Mustang, just havn't got around to bangin this car around much yet. Anyway, it was very clear that my car had more power. The GST was stock, other than some clear tail lights (YUCK). Anyway, the 240 impresses me again!! Pretty fun kill, just wish I hadn't missed 3rd, I HATE that!!

but they are lighter.

beating a eclispe is not really impressive....... there's a reason why those japanese back in the land of the rising sun don't really fix up eclispe.... i personally think they're ugly and slow....

because they don't exist in japan, lol! they were manufactured in the usa:ylsuper and never exported to japan.

and as for being slow, it's mostly due to their weight. i've driven more than a few dsm's with basic mods (exhaust/intake kit, boost controller) and they're no slouch for sure. i have a friend with a $500 beater 1G Laser that runs mid 13's with nothing but a ghetto exhaust and a boost controller.:D

I only have an injen intake, header, N1 single. Yeah, I know that Eclipses aren't that great, but, I've read about people on here not being able to beat them for some reason. Hell, when I posted that I beat a new V6 Eclipse, noone believed me, go figure.

This thread bums me out. I've kind of been looking to race a GST or GSX Eclipse. Yet if a mostly stock, NA S14 can walk away from one, it wouldn't even be a challenge. Oh well, back to pickin on the G35C's.

Before you guys talk to quickly about Eclipses being girly cars... The 240SX was targeted to women in advertising here in the states. So actually if you want to get technical 240SXs are girl cars. It doesnt matter what make and model you have. Its the power you have under the hood, the stiffness of your chasis, your braking power, and how you drive it.

It does very much matter. I wouldn't be caught dead in a Miata, Del Sol, or an Eclipse (95-98 aren't AS bad as new ones). And while 240SXs may have had some female targeting, you put an S13 next to a Miata / Del Sol of the same year and it's quite obvious which is "girlier."

True... but if that girly miata or del sol spanks your 240, wouldnt that make you feel even more girly by being beaten by one? Im just saying dont judge a book by its cover. ive seen some really fast and legit eclipses

I've seen some downright insane Del Sols/Eclipses/Miatas, and was sincerely impressed by their perfomance characteristics, although slightly detracted from by their painfully gaudy body kits and altezzas....

But in the end, if someone in a Del Sol had more hp and/or better 1/4mi time, that would only serve to prove to me that they invested more money into their rolling pile of estrogen. It would bother me a bit, but then I'd remember what I have and what it cost. :)

lol, there is no doubt that the miata is a contender in a twisty race, and the del sol is a nice light car to do an engine swap and turbo on for drag racing...so dont knock it till you've tried it!

Only knockin' the fact that they're no doubt driven by the cast from "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy."

hahaha....i'm not trying to offend anybody who drive these kind of cars....but i find 2 seaters car convertible and that is almost as small as a geo metro to be really girlish...even the Z3 seems really gay to me.....

while you say a 240sx was target towards women....the eclispe is suppose to be a sport car, which gender it was target for, i don't know.....but if you face reality, you find that more people will say a eclispe is a girlish car rather than a 240sx....

Yes, but i dont care about what people think. if i cared what people thought id be driving 2002 civic with a 3' wings, LED washers, neon undercar kits, and 18 inch chrome spinners. The general public is retarded and has no merit on my car decisions. I care about performance. i believe form follows function. a car is only as girly as you drive it. there are plenty of turboed VW bugs out there that can kick some ***. the 240SX is a great car. i just dont dismiss an entire model of car because of a few gaudy body kits and racing stripes.

Well, I agree that there are cars that I consider "girlie" Personally, I like the Miata. It's a fun car to drive and they can be made fast just as easily as a 240. I can't stand Eclipses, my ex G/F had one and it was always broken. Besides that it couldn't fight its way out of a sock!! One of the slowest cars I've ever had to drive. Now, the new MR2 Spyder is girlie....slow, and I havn't read of any that were modified that were impressive at all.

no, they ride in a Suburban and it scares me to watch all of them run out of it into a house, think I'd run away screaming like a girl if that happened to me...

Mustangs were originally targeted to women as well. Doesn't stop it from being one of the "manliest" cars on earth as far as our culture is concerned

After that post I had to click my link to make sure it was really a gst; I don't really know why you brought up mustangs, unless you thought I was being sarcastic, which I doubt, because I just posted a link for a 600hp dsm.

Ok, let's go through what I've said so far and pick out what applies."Girly" cars can be fast all they want. $$$ = speed.I said the 2nd gen wasn't that bad, and black does look nice. But then again, it's still FWD and has a huge basket wing on it. And my 15 year old 240 is more reliable.

Nice DSM, I've seen "sicker", and still wouldn't want one. :)

Only redeaming factor about alot of DSMs is AWD. But want AWD Turbo HP? Scooby.

Apparently most of you are not very well educated on the matter of DSM's. I'm talking about 1g and 2g models.. whether it be an eclipse gsx/gst, talon or even laser.. As far as engine platform and straight-line performance these cars can be monsters with little work and 0 knowledge. A simply modded DSM with intake, exhaust, fuel pump and boost controller can easily knock out high 13's. A well built one will hit 11's.. Not sure many SR's are hitting 11's, maybe some KA-T's. They may not be the most reliable cars but I have been around DSM's quite some time and they can be heavy hitters.. A stock one is nothing to fret but even a lightly modded one will likely hand you your *** if they can drive. I've seen and been in DSM's as they spanked on modded z32TT's, blown 5.0 stangs, blowen bmw mcoupes, turbo stangs, FD 7's and even the ocasional Supra TT.. I'm not saying that all DSM's are the sh*t, in fact most of them are sh*t. However, you guys seem to be bashing ALL DSM's which seems unfair (granted the new ones are clearly crap). You have to give respect where respect is due.. The ability to boost 18psi with minimal effort is something to be keep in mind next time you see a gst or x rollin down the road.
