RWD if you really want it to be. Hot rodders love them. It is, after all, a product of engine development programs for the Corvette.

Ford's 4.6L Intech is a 290hp DOHC aluminum V8. While it isn't as smooth as the VH, its just as durable with more power down low.

Really, you need a good financial adviser.

Reality is much more important then any unfulfilled fantasy.

Learn first what is, then choose carefully what you want to apply yourself to change.

If you really have to travel a short distance very quickly, think electric.

If you want to drive cross country, think Q45 properly resotred to as new OEM specifications.

Just strap a couple of ACME Rockets to the top..........

That will turn the Q into a 10 sec. car

I've got a good idea for ya. It'll be relatively cheap and you will get the fast, luxurious, and unique car you want. I'm suggesting it because this is what I just did. Buy a Lexus SC300 and swap in a 2jzgte w/ the six speed into it. Everything bolts up, and upgrades are ridiculously easy to find. All you have to do to get more power in a setup like that is get a bigger turbo and send more fuel to the motor.

Go buy some real estate. In five years, you'll be able to afford to build a 10sec Mini Cooper with cash...

the Q isn't meant for the tuner scene. do some research on the bippu scene if you really want to impress the ladies.

For I think the first time ever in NICO history I 110% agree with Maxnix....you need a financial advisor and a lot of discipline. That $400K will go bye-bye before you know it. Your quick 18 year old thrill ride/dream will be nothing when you are 30 years old. Having money at 30 years of age gets you a lot further in life than at 18 years of age.

If the girl would only talk to you with a 9 second car, she's not worth one of your dollars.

Real estate is the right idea. Talk to a financial planner and get some ideas about real estate. That 400k you have right now could be turned into a million within 7-10 years.

buy a 5.0 fastback mustang for $700, paint the outside, build the motor, and for under 4-5k you'll have your 9 second car.

The problem with the Q is that its terribly unpopular, which means aftermarket upgrades and knowledge are limited.

If as many VH45s/VH41s were on the road as Northstars, imagine what we could do? Someone has to take the first leap and do something crazy, then share it with us.

I have little more free time and money these days, so I might get a Mark VIII or Seville as a starting point for performance (while keeping my beloved Q in perfect shape). I'm always worried about experimenting with the Q because they're hard to come by if I break something.

Like has been mentioned, a sub-10 second 1/4 mile car is way fast!

Look at some measured performance from cars that come close to that requirement (only one beats it). The data is a bit old, but still somewhat representative (click the thumbnail below for a larger picture)!

Realistically, it is going to be virtually impossible to get a Q to those performance levels ...

I think 10 seconds in the 1/8th mile is doable with the Q. Do NOT hop up the Q if you want a truly quick car. Hop up the Q if you want a luxo-barge that won't get noticed by the cops yet will still have some nuts to compete with or beat the big Benzes and Bimmers. A great fast ricer car is the '93+ Mazda RX-7. If the money you inherited must be spent on a quick street car that's not as typical as a stang or camaro, I suggest that body style of RX-7 with an LS1 swap. One that was swapped properly will be insanely fast, relatively reliable, and cost about $25K, give or take.

Dude, I would sooo not waste any money of that magnatude on a Q. With 400,000$ I would buy a house, and some property, pimp out your house, screw the ride, and rent out the property to Satalite radio towers... they pay you like 1250$ a month if you are in the right area.

Ok, so thanks for all the advice from those people who actually care, I think I will just put a nice body kit on it, get a new paintjob, and leave it at that. I guess its not worth it to spend way to much to make an unpopular car fast. I don't think i'll go for real estate I will finish up with college, and use the money for practical things like a house, and other things. Really thanks for the advice, as a normal 18 year old I got excited, and wanted to do something too crazy that will mean nothing 10 years down the road.

Well... whatever your initial intentions, I think it shows a damn lot of maturity to recognize the advice people are giving and recognize that you might have been making a mistake.

When I was 18 I'm not sure I would have rethought my decision with any clarity the way you have. You are to be commended for some foresight and thoughtfulness.

Now.. on to the car. No one here is saying that you shouldn't keep the Q, or that you shouldn't make the Q a nice car. Just that you should be realistic about your expectations. It's not a race car. It is a damn fine automobile though...with a nice set of wheels, clean paint, good interior, and engine restored to factory original you would have a hell of a car on your hands.

Since you do have a little bit of disposable income... take your Q up to T3 in Atlanta and let them have it for a couple of days. Tell them you would like to bring it back to factory original performance and they will get you all set up.

Good luck, and nice job making some good decisions. I'm sure if you have a really nice Q it will be "unique" performance car that you want.

I agree. It's good that you're listening to advice before making decisions. I personally think that body kit ruins the sleek and somewhat slender look of the Q. It will also likely make people want to race you... not the Q's strong point. For what that kit costs along with the price of getting it painted (assuming you do the grunt work and work to make it fit well), I would suggest using that money for just a decent set of wheels/tires and some Tokico blue struts with lowering springs. If the paint/body is good on your car, leave it as is and maybe add tint to the windows. You can also take out the rear muffler if you want some more exhaust growl for very cheap.
