Ok so yesterday i bought a 89 240sx HB 5 speed with 191,983 miles. When i test drove it, it was shifting fine through all the gears. SO on my way back home it started giving me problems. At first it got harder to put it in first gear, then second, then 3rd and then 4th. So for most of the times, at red lights, i had to put it in 2nd gear and go instead of 1st, it just wouldn't go, well at least i didn't want to force it. So we stop at bk and i let my buddy see if i was shifting right or was it the car itself. So he tries to go through the gears and same thing happens and he also tries to put it in reverse but it made grinding sounds :wtf2: , as if the clutch pedal wasn't all the way in. So when i get home i part in front of my house and let it sit for maybe like 4 hours or so. Then i get in and try to see if i could shift gears without problems so i could move it on to the driveway and now the gears are so smooth to go through. IDK what was wrong with it but my dad said that he is going to check the trans oil tomo to see if its at the right levels. Anybody know what could be wrong???

Oh and the car came with a ACT stage 2 clutch, if it helps.

Thanks in advance :)

Check your clutch lines and fluid.
Sounds like you have a leak or air bubble somewhere and you're not able to disengage the clutch all the way.

Did the clutch pedal feel soft at any point in time, do like razi said and check your fluid first. If that isnt it, its possible that your synchros are going bad

It could be a lot of air in the lines, happened to my friend in his coupe. Just bleed it out and try it then. If that's not it, then like Crautz said it could be your synchros.

Try changing out the gear oil in the transmission. I had the same problem, changed the fluid (it was burnt when it came out by the way) and I was able to shift goodly again. So try bleeding it and changing the gear oil then go from there.l

No actually it never felt soft, i had to push it in instead of just putting my foot on it lightly. And we will check the fluids, hopefully that will solve the problem. But i took it for a drive today it shifted fine. SO i hope its the fluids...

Hopefully it's not your syncros.

If it continues to be bad and you know that's the problem, looks like you'll be double clutching everywhere until you get it fixed, lol.

Next time it does it stop and pump the clutch pedal and see if it gets better or goes away, if it does then you are some how getting air in the line which means that the master or slave cylinder is most likely going bad.

Ok also i've got a another problem, now the speedo isn't working. I looked under the car and there is a wire hanging down there. it looks like it can be the speed sensor connector, its right towards the middle of the car. So would a lower harness, a brand new one, fix that??
