Sponsored by Rep. José Serrano [D-NY16] with no current co sponsors as of April. It has been introduced and submitted to committee. It was submitted in Jan of this year and proposes a repeal of the 22nd Amendment which limits Presidential terms in office.

It won't go through but I find it interesting that it was proposed. What other BS proposals have been plopped in for consideration over the last xxx years?

Hmmm ... I thought we gave up the concept of a life-time king when we established this country so long ago?

Yes, but how is that related to Presidential term limits, which have only been around since 1951?

These types of proposals come up every time a new party takes the WH and has control of the Congress.

If I had been alive in 1951, I would have asked the same "king" problem question then too, I guess!

Meaning, how come term limits were not in there before 1951!?!

Oh, quit it. Greg has nothing to do with this and he's younger than both Z and I anyway....

Kings have nothing to do with this discussion, either.

I'm against term limits. They seem arbitrary and create lame ducks.

Last time I checked, the country was moving towards the left, not the radical right. So, no...

That same question could have been asked before term limits.

If someone is a good President, why prohibit them from continuing to do the job?

Jefferson, Madison and Monroe thought it was a good idea to avoid a monarchy.

Did Bush try doing this? Doubt it as the uproar would have been on TV for years....

Dem lawmakers also proposed it while Bush was President, so in a sense, yes.

Who said they must be changed? I certainly didnt.

I would oppose removing term limits. Not sure how I feel about allowing more than two terms however.

Good point.

I would wager that most people (including past presidents) would oppose an American monarchy.

I feel the need to clarify that POTUS is NOT seeking to extend the term limit.

Some wackdoodles in Congress are, but they seek to do lots of silly nonsense.

Obama would *never* sign this into law, it would render him unelectable.

People on the fringe will always do silly fringe stuff, on both sides. The mainstream democratic establishment is NOT seeking to abolish the 2 term limit, period.

You can find examples of strange legislation from both parties in all sessions of Congress throughout history.

Hash, I never accused Obama of trying to extend his "life in office". This thread is about stupid crap that is brought up to committee.

"What other BS proposals have been plopped in for consideration over the last xxx years?"

Bipartisan question

Its a pattern with you.

Blanket statements of that nature should just spontaneously combust..

You have proven time and time again to not really be that closely aligned with the 'mainstream democratic establishment'. So, why are you speaking as if you know them, or simply speaking for them?

I mean all that is just your opinion and speculations based on your version of reality.

With "us" being working Americans who want to be left alone and make their own (hopefully smart) choices?

Just curious by "them vs us"

Uh huh, and we have government owned entities and entities with lots of government monies, proposed government health insurance, we have cap and trade either enacted or in the process of being enacted, we have ever more stricter emission controls enacted, and the tax code that was enacted.

Apparently our government has changed a whole lot and you haven't noticed, because that's a pretty far shift left in a short period of time for a government such as ours. Nothing has come out of the government as of late that has been conservative.
