Trying to figure out what new gun I want to buy. I have a few hundred dollars to spend, and am not decided on what my next purchase should be.

Thinking about getting a Super Red Hawk .44 mag. I had a Super Black Hawk .44, and absolutly loved it. 10.5 inch barrel. :D

Or I was also thinking about a nice Ruger single action revolver in .32 H&R mag, .357 mag, or maybe .45 colt.

Or a Mark II pistol. I ahve been wanting one ever since I got into shooting, but just never get around to getting one.

I am also considering maybe a nice assault riffle. Like one of the new AK variants with the black synthetic stock. They look pretty sweet. And you know how reliable the AK's and Mac's are.

Of course, I could always stand a new scatter gun. Best thing in the world for home defense.

I just don't know. Leaning toward the SA revolver.

What do you NICO gun nuts think????????

I am seriously staying away from you guys late at night...

Words of the wise: busting into Asleep's house? Don't expect to come back with just one ***hole...

I'm all about a quick, easy to handle pistol, but what do I know? I've only shot a couple .22s (which I'm quite proficient at, yay!) and a low gauge shotgun...

hah, they are kinda neat.

I'm not sure about the range on them though.

I feel the .300 Win Mag is a fine choice in varmint hunting.

Browning A5 12 Gauge. I have one from 1948. I got it for my 15th birthday. It's a beautiful gun and they're incredibly reliable. My dad bought his new back in '76 or something like that. And a couple of years ago we got my gandpas (we miss him but we love the toys we got). His is actually a Remington, I believe, made on the Browning patent back in WWII for the U.S. Navy as guard guns so it's really short and fun to shoot. The recoil based action can take a little getting used to but it's definatly worth it.

ah the A5.

actually, I think that's the first 12ga I ever shot.

it's a little goofy looking with the bolt riding up so high, but like all Browning designs, bulletproof.

did you know it was orginally made back in the 1800's. he got the idea from watching grass blow from the muzzle blast while hunting. He had a hard time getting someone to buy the design though, as all the makers thought that it was too radical and would scare people. I believe he finally got Remington to pick it up, though most were made by Fabrique Nationale.

It's a 17 cal. mag. The bullet travels at 2600 fps or something. It's good up to 300 yards with the scope we have. And the ammo is cheap.

the whole purpose of the DE is to scare the living crap outta anyone stupid enough to mess with the person holding it, a silencer pretty much defeats the purpose in the instance where there are more than one hostiles within a 1/2 mile range ;)

you should check out the FN 57. its 5.7x28 and has an average velocity of 2200 fps. until recently it was only available for government and law enforcement. http://remtek.com/arms/fn/57/

hehe, someone said GAU-8. did you know i get to shoot that all the time at my work? not in a gatling setup but in a chain gun setup. very nice round. i shot a windows nt startup disc with it . :)

edit - its 5.7 and not 5.56 like i previously stated. :)

yea i like the 5-7 too. mmmm armor perceing(sp) rounds. The Five-seveN® fires the SS190 5.7x28mm ball round. This projectile will perforate any individual protection on today's battlefield including the PASGT kevlar helmet, 48 layers of kevlar body armor and the CRISAT target (titanium and kevlar). The SS190's conventional design allows it to be manufactured on existing production lines, and its lead-free composition eliminates range contamination.

I've always liked the .38 special.

I've shot a Berreta 12 gauge, wow what an awesome gun.

Also shot a 7mm, put several holes through 1/4 steel at 200 yards.

I wholeheartedly recommend the Springfield XD series. I picked one up in a .40 cal Service model recently and it shoots very well. I got it new for $419 at Galyan's here in Indy.

lol, and how do you propose to handle the 9500 lbs or so of recoil from this very large projectile? :)

With the GAU-8 you don't worry about accuracy... because it fires like 10,000 rounds a minute. You can't miss. If you do... you suck.

Now that we are back on track.

Jester-The one thing I like about the .357mag, .44mag and the .454 is the fact that you can run different ammo (.38 special, .41 special and 45 Colt) in them to decrease the velocity of the round. Typically the price is cheaper as well. Something to think about.

when i buy a pistol the first thing i think of is - how easily can i conceal it? what good is a ccw or a sidearm if you cant take it with you? Kahr makes some very nice and user friendly pistols both compact and sub. an inexpensive and reliable pistol that i own is the Kel-tec p40. easily concealable and shoots well for a compact. i prefer .40 cal as my round of choice.

hahah it is a lot smaller...

Bud, that's .44 special though, just thought I'd let you know you got a typo chief.

yeah, the smaller loads usually are a little cheaper. .44 special I'm not too sure about though, being it can be hard to find at times due to less guns actually chambered in it.

a box of .38 is usually about 3 dollars cheaper then .357 though:D

with a pistol, number one for me, like any gun, is it comfortable?

The P-40 was actually discontinued for reliability issues, the one my uncle has was a pretty good gun for a while (minus the horrid trigger) but now it just jams like it's strawberry.

The Five seveN should still be restricted unless they changed the caliber on it. It also has the worst trigger pull on a handgun ever (they designed it this way though to prevent accidental firing from itchy fingers)

which p40 was discontinued? i know there was a problem with the kel-tec below a certain serial number range, but the problem was fixed. i beleive it had something to with the feed ramp. the 57 was on sale out here at the Crossroads gun show and some local gun shops... my buddy picked one up for the slightly high price of 850 bucks and then he picked up about 400 rounds of ammo for it. from what i understand, theres some kind of kit out already for the trigger as well.
