I've had a 7400rpm redline with no problems hitting the limiter. Sounds like you had a preexisting problem.

I am curious to hear if your oil pump drive broke.

I have been spinning well above stock redline with no problems for years. Sucks dude.

I bounce mine off the 8k rpm rev limiter on a weekly basis for about 5 seconds heating up the tires. That didn't kill your motor, lack of oil or bad bearing clearances did.

yeah, i once destroyed a prelude h22a that had pre existing valve lash issues doing that. high revs just expedite the failure.

i really want to see if it was the oil collar issue. Pictures please! I bet it was just an oil level or bearing issue.

I still have only seen one picture proving the collar is an actual issue on RBs.

I know it makes sense to modify them, especially when revving pretty high. Just there is little actual proof besides people on forums across the world saying "the short snout will lead to failure" when Ive seen tons of proof of people driving the piss out of their RB's with no collar modification and no failure.

You would have to run 8.5 CR pistons and go with a thicker headgasket. Unless you contact the piston manufacturer and have them make you a custom set. Personally i think you should taylor your compression to the gas your running. If using 93 octane then just stick with 8.5 to 9.0 CR.

93 at the Conoco in Ames, but still that isn't going to cause bearings to spin. I'm betting that it is the crank snout rounding off and the lack of oil pressure that caused the bearings to spin if that is indeed the case. Hopefully the crank is still in good shape and can just be polished.

one octane point is not going to cause major damage...especially on a stock setup which runs rich as snot.
