Nissan's pretty strict as far as what is covered by warranty and what is not. Honestly, it really takes all the fun out of driving such a car with all the restrictions. Shoulda kept the Viper!

Seems like the car just has too much technology that wasn't fully developed. How can you sell a car for 100k with launch control that can't handle being launched. They don't want you to use launch control because the car can't handle it. If I were a GT-R owner, I'd trade it in for something that I can actually drive.

I would take the GT-R any day over anything else, if anyone wants to sell for a good deal, let me know!

But, you know Bat...if you don't like your GT-R, I'll gladly take it off your hands...I suppose I could "DEAL" with not being able to use LC.

I can't believe how much misinformation there is in the post(and others like it floating around), and especially all the flaming by people who really don't know ****.

First, if you have had multiple transmissions replaced in any auto you've owned, then learn to ****ing drive and leave this one alone.

This has nothing to do with "first model year" stuff that some are claiming. The car has been out for 8 months in Japan before here and is totally solid from bumper to bumper.Onward...

Launch control is not really a feature. It happens to be something the car does with the VDC off in that scenario. VDC off is only to be used when the vehicle is stuck. Using it off all the time and launching the **** out of the car is not warrantable for repair. Have any of you been in a GTR that launched in this mode? You can't expect it to be able to do that over and over with no issues. The VDC in this car is so good that almost every driver out there is faster around the course with it on. You have one incredible ego if you think you can put the car in manual mode with no vdc and be faster.

Next, does anyone know the mileage of this failure? Forgetting the vdc abuse totally, if the trans temp has been at race temp 25% or more, then the fluid service goes to every 1800 miles or after each race. Had this car been just totally abused and not serviced? This isn't a Sentra, it's a supercar and must be serviced as such.

Finally, on all those bitching about abuse not being warrantable. I can't understand that mindset. The black box is as much for diagnostic purposes as determining source of failure. Would you expect to drive a Sentra through a lake and have the resulting damage warrantied? Of course not, then why would you expect to abuse the GTR and expect the same? Nissan knows this car is going to be driven hard, raced, and be wot as much as possible. That's why they have very good information on what to do, what not to do, and how to service the vehicle to maintain top performance at all times.

That is all. Ill try to stay civil on this and just the facts because I'm a huge Nissan and GTR fan and don't like to see misinformation and rumors spread. If I were to buy any car on the market right now, regardless of price, I would buy a GTR with no reservations or remorse.

BTW, to those who mentioned about wiping the data recorder. That won't work either. Having a history of totally nothing throws a red flag as well.

From the tone of the posts on here it's obvious that none of you read the whole thread.

The dumbass launched the car 22 times in a 2 week period before even breaking it in. He deserves what he got.

i was trying to read all the tread but its like 50 something pages. and i couldn't find that statement that you found. but i found this one ... a second GTR
NISSAN DENIES WARRANT CLAIM FOR THE SECOND TIME - NAGTROC - The Nissan GT-R Owners Club

Last night I got the bad news from nissan I was not hoping for, my warranty claim for the second time was denied. This time I didn't even get a straight answer. I remember reading a statement from nissan posted on this forum that if the car breaks during a launch you are sol, and if it were to break in normal driving conditions it would be covered. We'll that statement is not true, my car from their records was not launched in the last 48 recorded hours. So if your car breaks like mine, in second gear, in normal driving conditions. All the while if at any point you've owned this car and had your vdc off, you and me are in the same boat. We can talk all we want about who is right or wrong on this, but the reality is if and when you transmission fails on this car you will be paying for a new one. There is a reason behind having 7 transmission replacement boxes in the back of the service and maintenance guide (page 52). This is not by any means a bargain race car.

When I talked to Anna Naraeva (1-866-668-1487 ext 57376) she gave me a answer I couldn't understand. Nissan is refusing my warranty claim for too many launches. When I asked her how many launches I have done she didn't know that, apparently the car doesn't record the launches it only records if the vdc has been turned off. So nissan is denying my warranty claim due to excessive launches but doesn't even have a tally on how many I did. That can't be legal.

Bottom line is this i'm paying payments on this car and I refuse to pay another payment. I am calling NMAC in the morning and telling them to repo the car. I know this is a dumb move on my part, but I feel so strongly about the way I have been railroaded here. Its like nissan thinks they run the world. Sorry guys for giving the gtr a bad name I don't want too, but put yourself in my shoes.

2003 nissan altima, 2006 nissan maxima, 2006 nissan titan, 2007 infiniti g35, 2009 nissan gtr, and nissan will never ever get another dollar from me again.
I predicted that stuff like this would happen with this car. I say they scrap the design and build a REAL GT-R. Keep it around 3000 pounds, put in a real manual transmission, and go!

It won't happen, there is no going back to the old ways. All cars will soon be like this. As economies of scale on the technology set in, support systems for the various black boxes and crap are in place big brother will be watching. The good news? R32s will turn 25 in 2014.

just because the transmission is black magic that has summoned the four horsemen of the Apocalypse doesn't make it any less 'real'.

Wow, a transmission actually being evil and bringing about the apocolypse, what an angle. I like it!

exactly. i have driven 5 of these and there is no need to turn off the vdc unless your stuck in slippery conditions.

i obviously have no personal experience with this, but from wht i have read its kinda stupid to have a feature u can turn off but it voids the warrenty. idk thats just me. might as well titled the button fail button in the manual. I think its been noted the transmission is a bit weak if strained, but if anyone noticed nissan already addressed this as the spec v will have a beefier transmission.

I completely agree.

I think people forget that this is indeed a supercar. I would assume that if you were driving an Aston Martin or an MB SLR and ran launch control with any form of traction control off and abused the trans you would be on your own for the new trans which has to be more than $20K. It makes sense that the warranty would be voided as there is no practical need to turn it off especially with an AWD car with that much horsepower. Since it is made abundantly clear to new owners that using it in this manner is not warrantable why would you use it so much. I would love to see one of those in my garage and I would take better care of it.

That's the reason it did not come out under the Infiniti name. I'm sure there are many people out there who are owning and driving them without issue there is a small issue with very vocal people online spreading there grievances all over the internet. I do not know specifics of their exact situations but Nissan has an army of lawyers and would not do anything like that that would expose them to litigation or negative press without reason and justification. I would like to see the other side of these stories.

I do not get why you would buy a car like that knowing the costs involved in maintaining and operating a vehicle like this and be willing to have them repo your car because you are mad at the company that is only going to screw you. FAIL. There should be a test to buy a GTR not just the financial means to purchase one.

well if you read what the 'feature' is actually used for, Turning it off IN CASE YOU GET STUCK then it makes sense that the warranty would be void by turning it off to launch really hard. I bet that everyone on the internet complaining about that doesn't even have a bank account and career that would qualify for even buying a 'base' model GTR. Let alone driving it like they owned it.

if anythign id love to have that transaxle in a 240sx or **** even a q45/m45 would be great even just as a daily driver in just rear drive mode.

How can anyone expect the transmission to hold up? Read around. BMW tried the SMG transmission in their M3 cars and they could only handle about 30 launches, and its 150 HP less than the GTR. The GTR takes 480HP and slams it from neutral to 1st gear and does it through AWD. If it was just RWD Im sure it wouldnt be so much of an issue.

Porsche as well. The 911's that had the dual clutch gear box was the exact same issue and Im willing to bet that the 1001HP Bugatti Veyron has problems with it as well. The Veyron has a dual clutch gear box too.

So the GTR ($80 000?) has the same problem as a $2 000 000 car? and even the $120 000 porsche 911? Big deal! Its still an amazing car!

i also thought it was proven that you cant get the "record" 0-60 times without turning it off? idk seems kinda like false advertising to me. Also most threads i have read complaining about them are from people who own one and broke it or think it will break. I said i have no experience, cause of course i cant afford one im a 19 year old college student. I had the oppurtunity to test drive one, but alas i have no license at the moment. So until i drive one all i can state is wht i have read, and that is that the transmission seems to be not built to handle the engine. I think Xjared hit the nail on the head. ALSO TO ALL FAN BOIS I LIKE THE CAR JUST NOT AS MUCH AS A SKYLINE.

does a corvette transmission fail when u launch it 10 times? not to my knowlege. Look i said i like the car you just need to admit that maybe the transmission is not as strong as it should or could be. Nissan built this car while it was going under. I think for thier price tag on such a redic number producing car they had to cut corners somewhere. they chose to do this on the transmission. If it was perfect why would they follow up saying they are making a v-spec with a beefier transmission? huh why would they do such a thing the normal one works perfect right edit: and just cause im this big of an ******* thanks tim
