I have the same problem. When the knock sensors bad it messes up the timing. But my problem is the EGR Valve. My buddy is a big mechanic and told me that when the EGR Valve is bad it will tell the computer that the O2 and Knock sensors are bad. So go back where you bought it and get an OBD 2 Scan.

If the EGR is bad it should throw a separate code, not the Knock or O2 sensor code.

My '01 I30 does the same thing (growling at 1500rpm), except without a vibration and the noise goes away after a little while and then it won't make any abnormal noise at 1500rpm. I'm taking it in tomorrow so I will post up what the dealer says. I'm thinking vibrating heat shield though.

I bought an '03 I35, 32K miles, about 3 months ago. First month was fairly quiet with little or no growling, but now it growls as described above. Noise is higher pitch and louder the faster I go, but not too distracting. Cabin noise has always been a little high for a premium builder like this, most of it from engine compartment. Have always used premium fuel and have no fault codes, ever. Infiniti dealer has car now for 36K service, said they would check out growling noise. I'll let you know if they find anything.

Dealer found that left front wheel bearing was source of my noise. Replaced bearing and noise is gone - so far as I can tell.

Anyone else have any luck clearing up this problem?

I have the exact problem with an 2001.

Everything is stock so I don't think it is a hanger issue.

In my case, it doesn't seem like a bearing problem. Kinda lugging like when you drive a manual transmission ina higher gear at low rpm.

I tried to follow the links to the other site but they don't work. Searching the other site also doesn't work.

help.........
