@bigbadberry3 - under most circumstances NO. Most fights with a woman can be ended with out hitting them. Maybe a simple choke? Lol. But seriously I usually choose to grab and hold or the patented Chris Rock 'shake the **** out of them' until they give up. Not fighting a woman because of how I may look in a situation.
However someone can actually fight, in which case you would need to defend yourself in a more definite way than a grab/hold.

Hmmm. Fair enough. I can understand that. Often as I've seen there's one party who cant take teh words and one who wont back down or doesn't want to fight and has simply said to much for the other party to handle. Like sitting around and joking on friends and someone gets bent out of shape over a joke. It happens.

What does Verbal Judo speak on? Im not much of a reader of temperment and mentality development but am honestly interested.

^^ I'd punch her in the groin!! :boink:

Seriously, if you're fighting, you better be defending yourself or you're already in the wrong. And if you're defending yourself, you should be free to use whatever weapon or target that's necessary.

Most fights are easily avoided because the douche running his mouth will almost never actually have the balls to take the first swing. Unless you let them get to you, or you are the douche starting the fight, it's easy to avoid.

I've been in 3 fights, and each time the other person wasn't able to stand after I was done with him. If I'm fighting, I'm fighting to win.

I try to avoid fights for a reason. First, I'm a small guy and only slightly stronger than the average person. I can take a lot of punishment, but I'm not the greatest at dishing it out. No one punch knockouts. Second, you never know who that guy really is and what he is capable of. This leads to a potential problem.

Fights are often won by the most capable. If you can knock the dude out in one shot, it doesn't matter, but if it lasts for more than a minute or so and doesn't get broken up the one person who is willing to go further than the other guy is going to win. How far is that guy willing to go? Some bruises? Broken bones? Does he have a knife? Does he have a gun? Where are his friends and are they coming for you too?

If they beat you down are they going to stop when you stop or are you going to die tonight? If you win are they going to come back with more people and get you? If you are with your friends or god-forbid your lady are they being put in danger too? All these things should be going through a person's mind when chests start getting puffed up and words exchanged. This is a f*** up world full of f*** up people and this code of honor s*** "man, I won't kick a guy in the balls" will get you hurt or killed.

I am very cognizant of this and will try to talk my way out of fights if possible, back down if it is possible, I've laughed off punches because I knew if I rolled the fight would not start. In lieu of that, left with no middle ground where we can disengage or safe escape, I'll fight. I do not fight easily because I never saw it as a recreational pursuit and while I know some people can throw a few shots and it's done, most people are a wild card.

You may beat me, but I can guarangoddamnedtee you you will remember the fight for the rest of your life, perhaps by the scars I gave you. I will do absolutely anything to shut you down and eliminate you as a threat to me and the people I care about. Groin kick, s***, I'll drive my thumbs in your eyes, hook and tear your cheek. edge-strike your throat, try to snap your neck, forward kick your knee and try to fold it inside out, break your wrist, etc.

I'll do absolutely anything because at that point I have given you every opportunity to leave me alone and you have now become a real threat. A cornered animal is a dangerous thing and if I am balling up my fists and taking a stance, I've been cornered and you are standing in the way of me getting out of that corner, here I come. Honey Badger don't give a f***.

I'm not a fighter. So I will do everything to avoid a fight, I prefer words before fists. But if someone is that adamant about getting into a fight with me, after everything I've done to avoid the altercation, the nads are fair game to me.

^^ After reading your LONGG post, I agree on everything you've stated. I won't fight unless I'm cornered and you have exhausted every option I have given to let me, or you, walk away.

I took a wicked shot to the sack in a Kenpo class (swift snap kick) during a sparring session from one of the instructors that lifted me off my feet and crumpled me for a good half-hour. Even with the protection of a cup, I wound up in Urgent Care the next day with a left nut the size of an apple and a high fever (testicular torsion ain't no joke, kids).

Three kids later, no residual effects, other than a healthy respect for the "stopping power" of a well-timed nutshot. :)

bware113 wrote:@Ajax - That honestly seems like a pretty cool profession. Did you need formal fight training or just an overall understanding of performance arts?
I have no true martial training, unless you count a single semester or so of Capoeira, but that was a bit more dance-based than martial-based (it was through the dance program at my school). I train with an organization called the Society of American Fight Directors. Been training since 2001 with a lot of weapon styles.
I love it, but it can be tough to work with some people who have no concept of how their bodies work. I could go into a diatribe about the lack of physical awareness within a large portion of MN-based actors, but this ain't the place. Its nice to be able to leave my office and create violent imagery without the worry of real threat.
And to tie this all back to the original topic-
Theatre is the only place when I think its interesting to see conflict that is so deep that words are no longer an option to resolve, and violence becomes the answer-Less yacking, more whacking!

Absolutely agreed. If you've pushed me to the point of genuine self-defense, you have no business expecting a fair fight. I WILL drive the best improvised weapon I can find into your groin, face, chest, stomach, face, face, face, and face some more. Fighting "fair" is for sport fighting.

^ When its on, its ON! I haven't found myself in these type situations much but when they arise one does what he has to do. I don't like breaking bones in my hands so the sooner its over the better IMO. People won't mess with someone much who is crazy enough to twist, punch, kick or pull the kumquats off.

^ so you've broke a man's bones in your own hands?

Might I say, Im not one for senseless violence and brutality. Like everyone else, I try to avoid fights to the best of my potential. But if it came do to it and I had to fight someone I just cant wrap my head around these options testicles hits and eye gouging. I mean in a 1v1 fight just you and some other guy, no weapons, of similar size fighting over lets say a girl(Mila Kunis or something; I say a woman cause it's common for guys to fight over) these are your first options?

I know I will get the guys who say 'I wouldn't fight over a girl', it's just a hypothetical situation fellas. Groin kicks and eye gouging or taking weapon to stab a man is still your go-to?

Broke my hand trying to send a crackheads fried brain out his a$$. What is used depends on the situation, the best used weapon for me is tact. To be able to exit the situation without combat is always my preference but isn't always possible.

Ex Brother in law smoked crack in front of my niece who was 4 years old at the time so he needed some "special attention" When I heard her describing how they smoked from a can I went on the hunt. She is 20 now and fairly well adjusted, he is just another dead beat dad living 3 states away with no contact with her. My sister filled for divorce the same wk. this happened. Side note, I found out how many bones were in his neck because I touched every one of them. :yesnod

It really sucks because this guy had a strong work ethic and a bright future till he hung out with crack head Tyrone.

@jdansmith - that sucks man. You hate to see someone you know or even like get hooked 'on that stuff'. Did what was necessary.

@ScorchedNX2k - That reminds me of Miss Congeniality with Sandra Bullok. S-I-N-G: Soloplex, Instep, Nose, Groin. LOL
