grinding noise from the struts

after i brought my car into the shop for alinement i hear a loud grinding noise every time i turn. when the people at the shop were looking at my car they told me that my struts were damaged and they said they could replace it but it would cost $800. they did not tell me the specific parts that were damaged, one of my friends said i should just replace the suspension and get coilovers and it would fix the problem since the shocks are blown. im not sure if i should just pay the $800 ( which is crazy **** expensive ) or just replace the suspension. help me

The bearing in your top mount is probably shot. If your top mounts are bad and your struts are blown, just get coilovers, you will pay the same for coils as you will for stock struts, and you will be much happier with the coils.
