good luck man
True that! I also like that it looks (for the most part) stock too. Sound mats are a good idea. May have to look into them myself too.

Best of luck to you too!

I have about 600 miles on my Nismo and it has definately mellowed out at lower RPMs. I love it!

I thought mine was bareable at first but it did the opposite of grow on me, it started to annoy me more and more. So I tried to figure out what to do. I remove my Injen and put back on the stock intake and it made it alot quieter. I will sacrafice the couple of horsepower the Injen gave me to keep the sound that I have now. It's much better.

By the way, Injen intake for sale, e-mail me.

Joe, the sound of the Injen annoyed you? Wow, can't say I've heard anyone say that before. Crazzzzy

NOOOOO! The sound of the Nismo exhaust was too loud for me so I put back on the stock intake to see what it would do and it made the Nismo quieter.

I just wanted to post an update for anyone who was still following this thread. I put quite a few miles on the car this weekend (around 300, not much highway & quite a few WOT's ), and by the end of the holiday weekend it was really sounding good. I still don't know if it's just in my head, but I think it got quite a bit quieter, and sounds really, really good at WOT I'd even go as far as to say that it sounds better than the 350z I had before-hand. It's still a little too loud at around 2k RPM's, but even that has gotten better (and I'm getting used to avoiding that range).

I also installed the Fujita intake I had for it this weekend, and that made the whole "sound experience" amazing. I don't notice any sound from the intake down low (probably because the exhaust overpowers it), but high up (around 5k RPM's) you really notice it. It almost has the raspy sound you'd hear from a V8 muscle car that's flooring it (not THAT loud, mind you, but it's there). I think it sounds frickin sweet together with the exhaust. I drove with a few friends over the weekend and all of them said it sounded bad-*** when I passed them.

So.. all that to say.. I'm now officially pleased with the NISMO exhaust. I'm glad I was patient, and would recommend to anyone else that just got it and thinks it's a little too loud to be patient. You'll be very pleased in the long run!

Good to hear! I have that exhaust and a Fujita on the way.

I may regret all the additional noise. OR, I could revel in the exhaust/engine notes and use more fuel. I'll find out soon.

Sorry for the thread jack but I have a question regarding the Nismo Catback.... Does anyone know the function of the ground wire that connects to the muffler. Unfortunately as I was installing my nismo catback the bolt snapped as I was attaching the ground wire. Can I go on without this? Any help is appreciated

The main purpose is the grounding of the pipes, without having that grounded you can cause electrical issues with your stereo and lights.

To be exact I cannot know.

Someone with more knowledge may speak up.What i would suggest is TAP & Die that out and put in another screw.

Thanks for the reply... I am definitely going to fix it as soon as possible. Another question... when you first installed the exhaust did you experience a faint burn smell during the first 100 miles?

Mine smelled a little hot the first time I drove it a longer distance (went on a ~50 mile trip the next day and could smell it a little), but nothing since then.

yes, you always experience the smell. that is the coating used to preserver the pipes, it usually takes about 500 good miles.

you may even notice a smoke trail once you stop and get out of your car, but that also will go away.

the sound will also change. (better sound) IMHO

again all this is normal.

I appreciate all of your help... you can probably imagine my frustration once I install the entire system a snap the tiny 10mm bolt at the end of the installation

yep, you just need to calibrate your torque wrench... that comes with age and time.

You can prob go to AutoZone and get a tap for that size bolt, or better yet, Sears has a nice little tool that does remove stripped bolts.

Good luck with the bolt...

Hey guys, I notice most if not all of you have 3.5s with the NISMO exhaust. I personally have the 2.5 and was contemplating getting the NISMO.

Is it gonna sound just as lound/less or the same with a 2.5 engine? Cuz I too just want a LITTLE extra sound but nothing to turn heads and have ppl staring at me thinking 'that punk with a loud car' kindda thing!

I can only say how mine sounds since I have the 3.5. Remember you have 4cyl and the sound should be different due to the exhaust pressure.

I think someone on here my have the NISMO on a 2.5. I have had mine for some time and the sound seems to get better as the miles are added.

I don't think it will sound like a ricer with a 4banger.

I have had mine installed for a little over a month and I Love it. It is almost stock sounding when you first drive off. It gets louder as you drive. I almost wish it was a little louder, but I am waiting for the AEM Cold Air Intake price to come down since it just came out, that will also increase the noise.

What I'd be afraid of is what will all these exhausts sound like with headers, or simply put, without the cats. I like the description of the Burrrr because it's what comes to find when I first heard the Nismo exhaust. I still really like Nismo, prefer them over everyone in quality, I just wish more of you guys could listen to the Borla. I get so many compliments from all kinds of people, tuner and casual car lovers of how sick the gurgle is. But, I can see how the axel back concept doesn't appeal to hard core tuner. Anyways, don't want to thread jack, this is after all a Nismo post. Let it break in, can always mine tune it with future headers, resonators (or remove), or flat out sell it.

i love the sound of the Borla, but decided against it since it's an axle-back.

In retrospect, I don't know why - I sincerely doubt there's much difference between an axle-back and cat-back unless you're doing turbos or s/c or other mods on the serious side.

I try to get people to realize that all the time dealing with a N/A car and fluid dynamics involved in the power curve. One it's a 2.5" pipe so you could always open it up by replacing the midpipe between axel back and the y-pipe. There's nothing restrictive in the stock pipe other than the funny squishes which might net a 1whp, why I say that is the main bottle necking going on is in the headers well before the cat back flange. Normally the only gains I've seen from testing exhausts on wheel dynos has come from the removal of cats. Fine tuning the bends is usually good for some decent gains but the difference between from a borla axel back, stillen axel back, tanabe ect, to a catback is simply a pipe that is a 1/4" bigger in diameter in the mid section. Keep in mind you can open up the catback all you want but the headers and cam will only flow so much.

If I recall correctly, the only reason stillen did a catback is for the over whelming demand. I forget what rep posted gains were minimal between the two stillen exhausts. It'd be great if Stillen one day made a midpipe to conect up their axel back (stock mounting points), something those of us with other exhausts could use. One of these days I'm going to have to find another A/C 6spd with an intake and exhaust and dyno test them. Ideally you'd like to do the same car but more work than it's worth. I guess it's in the eye of the beholder, for me I went with sound and got exactly what I was hoping to get. Sound is exactly the same to Addias "catback" Borla.
