I have to say, I'm not a huge fan of it so far. *In my opinion* it's way too loud in the lower RPM's. It's a really loud and really deep "brrrrrrr" sound, which is a little too close to some Civics I've seen with just a bigger muffler on. (At least it doesn't get the higher "waaaa" pitch in the higher RPM's, like many do.) It's so loud it's hard to talk if you're giving it any gas (just going up a hill). Same on the highway. It's not too bad if you're just coasting, but if you're giving it any gas at all, it's really loud.

In the higher RPM's though, I think it sounds awesome. But, unfortunately I can't floor it everywhere I go.

So, I really don't know what to do now. I feel it draws too much attention to me (I hate the "look at me" drivers out there, and don't want to be one of them.) I thought it was supposed to sound like stock, but a little louder and closer to a 350z, but it sounds nothing like my 06 350z sounded like (maybe in higher RPM's, but down low, it just sounds like some 4 banger with a big muffler on it).

I thought I read in one post about the nismo exhaust that said that over time the sound changes. Is this true? If so, how does it change? I really don't think I can stand it if it's going to stay the same. What I want is something more than stock, but not on the verge of obnoxious (350z sound would be great). Anyone with the nismo exhaust have any input? Do I need to give it some time, or is this how it is for everyone?

(Checked all the pipes. Everything is tight.)

Thanks.

Give it some time to adjust. When I had my Stillen installed it was loud as all hell and it slowly turned into a better tone that I'm quite happy with. This has been the case with any exhaust system I've installed on a vehicle.

yeah give it 700 miles or so, it will settle down... IMHO my 2.5 nismo sounds better than the 3.5 stillen, but its all your taste.

The stillen has much less of a rumble at low rpms, but is at a higher pitch when you bring the rpms up... Its all a tradeoff..

No, I'm not kidding. Now, it doesn't sound like a "fart can" (no farting bumblebee sound like some), but it I've heard quite a few 4-bangers with a muffler on that sounded like what mine currently sounds like. Heck, years ago I had a 96 Eagle Talon TSI, and put 3" exhaust from the headers back on it, and it sounded very similar. Way too much noise for me now.

I appreciate the comments about giving it some time though. I'm willing to be patient and see how it changes after some miles are put on it. It's just kind of embarrassing right now. I hate being "flashy". I like having a nice car, mind you, but not something that puts me in the same category (to most people) as some kid who put a cheap muffler on his car. I want something I can drive up to a business meeting in, and the people say "hey, that's a really nice car. sounds great too", not thinking "wow, what a show-off". Right now, I think I'd fit into the latter category for most people.

I think the stock G37 sport exhaust sounds sexy as hell. Isn't the 3.5 A/Cengine the same engine just tuned differently? If so, why couldn't we get G37 exhausts? They're subtle, but very satisfyingly deep.

If you guys are looking for stock g37 exhausts i can probably find a bunch locally...

Do you have the full cat-back or just the axel?

I have the cat-back. I'm going to take your advice and give it some time.. but if I don't like it in a few months, I'll probably look at other alternatives (like G37 exhaust maybe).

Has anyone just put bigger exhaust tips on their 3.5, and if so, how does it sound?

PS I'm not talking about fart cans, just a little bigger circumference tips.

I know exactly what you're saying. I would also like to get a 350Z-esque sound that won't make everyone look at me or attract cops. So far none of the seems to sound too close to the sound of our 05 Z. I think if you enjoy the 350's purr you might like the Artisan or GReddy.

I live in Mississauga, yeah lets do it up. My buddy has 03 350z he would probably be interested as well. I should be getting the new wheels at the end of the month ..... what wheels did you end up getting.

I have to agree with Canadian Coupe, I IMO the Borla is the sound you are looking for.

I would have gone Borla but the Nismo was $145 less. I just installed my Nismo this weekend and I agree with you on the sound but I like it, I would like the sound of the Borla better.

Yes, it's a little too loud for my taste but not enough to bother me. I really do like it and it should get a little quieter over the next few miles.

Agreed, allow it time to adjust. I also felt it was too loud at lower RPM's but now that it has broken in the sound is better.

You can always buy sound mats to lower the deep rumble in lower RPM's.

I Love mine....

I think it's getting better. I don't know if it's because I'm just getting used to it, or if it is actually getting quieter. But, it's slowly growing on me. It's still pretty loud at around 2k RPM's under load, but sounds good everywhere else. It's to the point it's bearable now, and if it quiets down just a little more, I'll be sold (have about 350 miles on it so far).

Thanks for asking!

Yep, I still have a small area that makes me fill "Ricer" but I am looking at some "sound-mats" or something like that to line my trunk. At least the sound is where it is supposed to be...out the back..

good luck man
