I know zilvia has a decent writeup on how to install the bars, but from you experienced people, are there any tips I should know before hand?

my advice to you bro is to use the stock bolts that holds the bar to the underbody. maybe yours is different, mine is an rhs13. but anyway. the stock bolts are stronger and smaller in overall diameter so they arent such a tight fit.

i didn't have too much trouble w/ the rear sway bar, but the front is where i spent most of my energy with. you might want to have some kind of spacers or about 15 to 20 washers for the rear. i had to add extra space because the bolt they supplied wasn't threaded far enough and also comes very close too the heat shield at the hump of the bar.

i'm with marcusx........for the front i ended up filing down just enough to be able get the bolt thru. if you try to force it in there you end up like me , stripping the thread. good to have a friend whos a mechanic and has a shop.

total time installing both bars = 5 hours but well worth it.

They were easy for me to install...if one side was more difficult, I'd say the front would be it. Get some jack stands or something to support the bar while bolting it up. Makes things much easier.

Thanks for the info. I am definately not looking forward to putting them in, although I am looking forward to see how much of a difference they make.

When you install the brackets that hold them up, make sure you bend them slightly so that the bolt holes line up correctly. The 'D' shaped brackets on mine were not closed up enough so I ended up cross-threading one of the bolts.

i have whiteline sways but i imagine installation should be similar. i didnt have any problems with the install as i can remember but the most difficult part was the linkage on the front sway but i think the linkage is different on the ST sways. installation will be much easier if you have a friend to help hold it in place as you bolt it into the frame with the D-Brackets. i did it by myself and it probly took about 3 hours total. also make sure you have the D-Bracket and bolts for the rear sway bar if you didnt have a stock sway bar. im not sure if the ST sways include that.

Nah, they should be preloaded anyway. Use ramps.

Ease of install wasn't my motive for preloading the bar.

I put the rear one in today, it was cake. I sense some understeer more than normal, since the front is stock still and the rear stays niiiiice and flat. Its great!

Can ST sway bars be painted, say with caliper paint, engine enamel paint or the likes? Does the twisting applied to the bars cause the paint to peel away? Has anyone painted their sway bars in any way?

Well, because I want to.

I just wanted to ask if anyone had done it and, if so, how. Thanks.

well, you could powdercoat it (longest lasting option) or u could try an enamel. as always when painting anything, prep is key to make it last... good luck with painting your suspension

putting mine in wasnt too bad but i had a lift and air tools. i had a little dificulty lining up the D brackets and one of the bolts stripped out on my first test drive and bent the d bracket back but i impacted a larger bolt in and it held great. so just make sure your bolts arnt crossthreaded and make them as tight as they can possibly go because there is no way to get to the inside of the frame to replace the nut or bolt, on the front of my 89 anyways

I doubt it. I mean it would work, but you pretty much have to take the wheels off to change the sways. Plus if you just use jack stands, that takes the weight off the entire suspension, allowing it to flex some if you need it to (which you do).

So basically no, using car ramps wont work.

That's not true. I used ramps when installing mine...I never had to remove the wheels...and your supposed to have the suspension preloaded when installing swaybars.
