i got this from a z28 page and it works good here to "And it's no surprise that your stripped-out, played-out "8-second drag" car can't take a corner faster than 10 mph without doing the impression of a Toro lawnmower.." love to the usa and the cars but lets not cross breed!!!

Im not wanting to get in this flame war but if you are protecting V8s and saying that 240s arent classified as sporty cars then you are forgeting DRIFTING. With the help of LSDs 240s are very much so capable of DRIFTING stock. I love Muscle cars and the muscle car engines and if i had the money/time/fabrications i would pop aV8 into a 240. I would just be worried about getting the power to the floor.

Yes you are right this thread is not about drifting but you said that 240s dont qualify as sports cars and i thought you werent considering handling capabilites. but this thread is about opinions on V8s IN 240s and some people said they would like it and some said they wouldnt i would love it though.

This thread started out with a guy and his "new" 240sx and had the idea to put a small block in it ... which is fine if he has the money and the inclination to do so but then you have people flaming 8 cylinder engines and him for the idea it is unnecessary.

to tell the truth, the sbc has not really changed all that much with the exception of smog equipment and fuel injection.

now that i said that

there is no replacement for displacement

and

boosting a car will make up for the displacment, until the v8 gets modded beyond basci bolt ons.(supra tt for example, it will come to a point where the v8 will own in the 1/4, but lose everywhere else)

i have driven several American v8 cars and that is basically the only true way to learn to respect their potential.

i have also been in an s13 with a red top sr20det and it was fast.

the two fastest cars i have been in were both 11 second cars. one was a 1995 saleen mustang gt with the cobra 5.0 and vortech SC at 15 or higher psi, cant remember.

the other is owned by the mechanic that made my DP for my celica. its an early 90's CRX with a fully built b16 swap and turboed.

from a stop, the mustang felt faster. starting in 2nd, the crx was unstopable.

so good luck with your plans of a SBC swap, after all it is your car and your opinion on what engine will be best.

oh and btw, about the sr20 beating z28's and such, put an lt1/ls1 in an s13(and with the swap will prolly come all the basic bolt ons, IHE) and you have a camaro z28, making probably about ~30hp and torque more than stock with 500lbs less weight

now i mean no offense to anyone, but some of you guys have to understand how things work. i personally respect all cars. all engines are engineering marvels and even stock CRX HF has about 60x the power of one horse. think about how far ahead that car is when compaired to the animal power we had before cars.

Yes i respect any car engine. and i tottaly agree with you. i am universal when it comes to imports or domestics.

noone in this thread is flaming because they have a deep seeded hatred for american motors. i dont know maybe they are, but I am flaming because the guy said sr20 was "gay as5" and you are talking all kinds of crap about "let the guy do what he wants dont flame the all mighty american v8". if you like the sbc, how about expressing it in more civil terms instead of SR20 IS GAY AS5 STUPID 4 BANGER

and if you think the reason they put a 4 cylinder in the s2000 to "save money" you are dead wrong.

I never brought up the s2000 ... where are you getting this crap?

I said the 4 cylinder is highly manufactured because it is CHEAP not because it is better.

I dont care about the s2000 , infact I think it is over rated

last time i checked, smaller motors were used to balance weight, not to "save money" (on sports cars at least, dont try to bring up economy cars like civic in which case your statment is correct :), but then again, i dont think we were comparing a civic to whatever v8 powered auto you may prefer)

i got it from my previous post, which you obviously read since you quoted it directly... i gave a list of cars that are obviously not built with small motors purley to save money.

Those are very few cars in an industry that makes millions of cars. Has nothing to do with this thread or my statement.

Man, what are you guys fighting for? Do you think by keeping this pissing match up, one of you will change their mind and come to love V8s or turboed 4s? Seriously now, its been said before, there is no replacement for displacement. Done deal. That doesnt mean that a sr20det can't put out more than a v8, its just that if the person with the v8 were to put the $$$ that you put into a sr20 into their motor it would fly, period. Japenese cars were built for fuel economy and environment crap, thats why they use I4 engines. They really werent designed to race untill it became somewhat popular. As far as which being better, its all a question of opinion, which you 2 are willing to fight for to the death it seems. Sure its cheaper to build a domestic muscle car, we DO live in america right? But it is pretty cool to see these little Japense cars flying... even if people complain that they do sound like lawnmowers... Theres silvias out there that can own camaros, theres camaros out there that can own silvias, simply put. Sure it costs a crap load more to build a silvia that could beat a stock camaro, but theres a trade-off because you get a unique and uncommon car. So like i said, its all about opinion. Thats my 2 cents, seriously lifes too short for this ****.

Oh, I forgot. Mad props to you Blade if you get that 240 to run with a chevy 350. I seen a 240z with a small block vette engine in it, it was insane. But don't knock sr20s man, they are badass engines too. I personally would take the sr20, i just love that sound of the spooling turbo and those loud *** blow off valves.

I know this is a 240 forum, and Im here cuz I love those cars (I want 1 soo bad), but some of you guys take **** too serious... jeeze.

just my 2 cents I love 240's and there motors i also love most other engines and think that with the proper maintenance and enough money any engine is capable of being powerful. hell they got an ecotech to push like 1100 hp . from an engineering stand point four cylinders are made much better imo they are more effecient and push more power per liter think about if 2 ka24de were slapped together making like a 4.9-5.0 v-8 it would be pushing over 300hp with almost 1 less liter than chevy back in the 90s when they were producing maybe 275hp. and if two integra type r motors were slapped together they would be making 430 hp out of a 3.6 liter v-8 stock there is not much you can say about that.i think everyone should calm down and be more logical before this does turn into a honda board that would be embarasing for all of us. peace

Im fighting because 89240sx is insulting everything myself and others enjoy about the 240sx. I didnt join these boards to hear people tell me how ****ty 4 cylinders are. Nor did i flame Blade which he constantly is aluding to. Im not out to tell people what they can and cant do, i was just pointing out some drivability problems and defending the motor that seems to be called "gay-***" a little too often.

As for the camaro thing, it does not cost more to build a "silvia" than to buy a stock camaro all the time. The prices i found online were anywhere from $5000 for a beat 93 model to $23,000 for a 02 camaro. People have built "silvias" for much less than $5000 and its a very good fight between the two stock cars.

I gave reading this thread part way through the second page :thumbup

I was at the track last friday here in Calgary, seeing a GTO Judge do a cat walk off the line and pull a 12 second 1/4 on a track 3500 ft above sea level ..... astounding.

Blade: Nice car, awesome find, too bad about the auto though! :)

Why the hell is 89240sx *****ing and fighting for anyways? The person who started this thread isnt even talking anymore so why do you must keep *****ing for? If you wanna ***** go ***** somewhere else just not in this forum. Most of the people join this forum to discuss and enjoy eachother's car NOT to hate on them. So can we just all get along please?

(But it is fun to read all these posts ;))(BTW: I had both '89 240sx AND 87 IROC Camaro and both have good sides and bad sides, its all just in personal preference.)

These arguements always suck. The import crowd always screams about wieght and technology, while the domestic crowd screams about size. The truth is that all engines work on the same principles, which means there "is no replacement for displacement". Technology is great, and it can and will improve all engines, but no matter how much technology an engine has the amount of air and fuel it can flow to turn in to power will always be the diffinative answer to how much power it produces. And I promise you that most car manufactures have access to all the technology that they want. GM is the largest automobile company in the world, so it would be stupid to assume that they didn't have the technology imports have. wieght is very important, but usually wieght follows each cars level of performance. The late 60's camaro averaged 3200 lbs., while a '93 or newer supra wieghs in excess of 4000 lbs.. Yes, the lower level of performance cars weigh a lot less, but they don't have any where near the potential of a tt supra, or big block camaro. I llove all cars, I have built domestics and imports, bikes and trucks, v8's and 4's and each one was different. So how can we compare all of these fairly? SR20's and RB's are great engines, and I can't wait to finish my sponsored S14. I haven't even driven it yet, but I have sat in it and I can't wait for that first drive. One thing that we should all remember is that domestic cars started every aspect of the automobile and auto racing, which lead to what we have now. Imports have also contributed a lot to the world we live in, but to assume that all imports are light, economy based, rice burners; or all domestics are old, rusted out, gas guzzling, lead sleds has got to be the most ignorant thing we can do as car enthusiast. I know this arguement will never be won, but everyone should give respect to where it is deserved, import or domestic. I respect and wish anybody with an outrageous and different idea luck, it's truly hard to be different in this world.OH s***, GOTTA GO, HERE COME THE BASHERS :rant

you cant be different there is always going to be some one faster or richer or did it before you. but if you want a car that can drag then use the body of a 240 and swap a v8 it will be sick, but a crx with a v8 would be sick too! its your car and you can do what you want and if you get it done i would like to see it because it would be fast and cool to see only love

Listen, i have ALWAYS loved V8s. I love the look, i love the sound they make, and i love fealing the percussion as a hemi cuda rolls by, but it is my own opinion that i am intitled to, that a V8 is not as good of a option as a SR20 in the 240sx platform.

This is my veiw of the whole situation for anyone who cares:Honestly, what is the difforence between a V8 making 400hp in a 240 and a SR20 making 400hp in a 240? Well, i can tell you, the delayed torque on the SR can make it easier to launch on the drag strip, and the car will be faster in the curves due to better weight balance (a V8 makes the front a the 240 heavier, and even if its only 50 lbs or so, the SR always has better potential for perfect wieght distribution). The SR will also be easier to drive in autocrossing because you can stay in the same gear longer due to much higher redline (and with the right turbo you can have 4500-5500rpm that makes big power, as much powerband and alot of V8s can rev total). Then, you take both cars to emmisions. With the V8, your ****ed regardless, because your not allowed by law to have motos from a difforent manufactuer in your vehicle. If you find someone who will look past that, cool, you wont pass the sniffer because (at least in pennsylvania) Emmisions are difforent depending on weight and displacement of the car, and the V8 is permantly burning enough fuel to produce 400hp. With me, all i have to do is turn down the boost and lean out the fuel curve (using evil technology of course) and im set, its back to a 155 hp 4 cylinder with NISSAN written on the valve cover. Is the SR20 route more expensive? Probably. IS the SR20 route Easier? A hell of a lot easier. Will the SR20 swapped 240 perform better? I'd say in most areas yes.

If i had a F body, i would keep the V8 becuase its a great platform and the car was designed to use that motor, which is the best way to maximize that potential. Just like the 240 was designed to use the sr20/ca18
