PLEASE READ IF YOUR GETTING YOUR CAR PAINTED!!

ok so as some of you know i got my car painted at earl scheib.....i have one thing to say to you all...never get your car painted at earl scheib!. i picked it up and the first thing i noticed was that the color was waaay different than the sample they gave me. the sample matched my car perfectly which is a light silverish blue but the car i picked up was bright baby blue. then i noticed that the side trim that runs down the middle of both sides of your car had been shaved off and painted, but only most of it, there are about 3 8-10 inch peices of it that are just sanded where it used to be! the manager said that they couldnt get it all the way sanded down and that if i got the black trim he would install it for me. the worst thing by far was when i looked at my windows. they look like they had a belt sander took to them!...both the passenger and driver windows as well as the 1/4 window in back are BADLY sanded. i brought the manager outside and showed them to him and he said"i've told them about this before, call me on monday and i'll see what i can do"...so i'm thinking this has happened enough times that you've had to talk to them before?

then i noticed how much overspray there was. i'm talking at least a 1/2 inch on damn near every peice of trim i have on the car. then i noticed that there is 3 places on the car where there is some major paint dripping. now i'm not talking about a few drips, i'm talking about a 6 inch row of them and the one on the back is about 4 by 5 inches of paint "chunk". there's also a scuff in the fender too. if any of you are thinking "you got a cheap paint job, what did you expect" then yes, i did get a "cheap" paintjob but it was also there best paintjob and when buying a cheap paintjob i expect to get a car back that looks like a car that was painted with cheap paint (which it is, and does) and maybe the couple little things, like an odd drip or a little overspray. what i dont expect is to get a car back thats ten times worse than when i gave it to them. in the end i dont like paying someone to **** my car up!. i work in a upscale restaurant as a line cook and if i send someone out soemthing and they dont like it then we comp them free drinks and dessert and make them a new meal, why shouldnt it be the same for my car?. anyway thanks for reading this as i know it's my problem and some of you wont care but i wanted to post it for anyone wanting to get there car painted so they could learn from my mistake. i'm calling the manager on monday about my glass which he WILL replace, and i'm going to tell him what i told you guys and ask for a refund and if he doesnt give it to me then i'm calling the district manager of earl schieb in the bay are and then the better buisness beurou(sp?)

lets see some pics! I know you're all bent about how they screwed up your car, but pics help to prove your point to these people in their corporate offices and such, since they're unwilling to come down and see the car for themselves.

Anyways, we want to see this! =)

I had a similar experience recently...I went to get my car fixed up (grazed by a silverado) + full body paint at this one shop that was recommended to my dad by one of his friends. It took me a while to pick a color but I finally settled on titanium metallic silver from the samples that the shop owner showed me. Well anyway, when I picked my car up she was this champagne tan color :thinker. Not only that, my plate lights, trunk light, and rear wiper didn't work .

That's why when I get my car painted I AM DOING IT MYSELF! I know enough about painting and want to take my time to get everything the way I want it (and the color(s) that I want it too!)

Sorry to hear about this man, I know it upsets you... 2 months after I got my car (it had a recent Macco paintjob, not bad, but not good either) I came out from school and someone had keyed the ENTIRE driver's side door!! Chipped the thing down to the primer and some places even the bare metal!! I was really pissed! Still haven't fixed it as I can't find a matching color (and I don't like to color too much anyway) So I am just waiting to get the whole thing done later...

i was just taking pictures of my car right now and while taking over 15 different pics of everything that was messed up i also noticed that under my licence plates was still the old color!....when i dropped off my car i said to him "should i take my licence plates off or will you guys do that before painting?' and he said that they do that for me....i mean it's only 2 screws holding them on, it must of taken them longer to tape it off than it would of to just take them off.

so you live in so cal or south carolina??.....is it's so cal then how much do you charge?....my friend has a air compressor so i'm thinking about just buying a paint gun and doing it myself which i've been reading up on and it doesnt sound too hard as long as i practice a bit on some sheet metal

Knightrider: Where in SC are you located?? I have though about painting my car... Just curious... Although the paint job that I am thinking about doing I know would probably be pricey.... I have though about doing it myself for that reason. But if there is a chance that somehow, somewhere I could find a paintshop to do a good job and for a good price.... Who knows! But I am thinking what would help me out the most would be to rent a paint booth for a night or so. And just do all the prep work before then once it is all done and the way I want it, just go to a paint booth for one or two nights and get the color put on...

You might think you its not difficult but you have to know how to use the gun (adjusting pressure, paint) also you need to know how to hold the paint gun during painting. Not only that but its recommended to have a very large compressor (80 Gal you could probably get away with at least a 30gal)., if you don't have a continuous spray your car will come out like poo. One portion of the car will come out good and one might come out fuzzy (not enough spray).

You might ask me how I know?? I did 2 cars already first car came out like crap, 2nd came out good. Not to mention all the wetsanding that needs to be done. For really good paint job you need to wetsand every layer of paint and clear coat.

"you get what you pay for"

you could just look at their finished car's and see how the color is uneven, and theres just mistakes, dust and all kinds of crap in the paint. theyre definitely cheap for a reason. i dont think they do any body work either

yeah earl scheib sucks big time. I brought my first 240 there and they painted my exhaust, springs, headlights, AND part of the window. worst of all..they claimed to have "clear coated" my car. Well when i washed it a couple weeks after like i'm supposed to, paint rubbed off. if the car did have clear coat, it wouldnt do this. I showed the store manager in person so they repainted the whole car, but there were runs everywhere, and orange peel like a mother. you should definitely complain to them. most likely they will try to fix the problems to avoid getting in trouble with the district manager. when i initially complained to their corporate hq, the store manager said i didnt have to do that and i coulda just talked to him about it. He even accused me of SLANDER because i told his "boss" they lied to me, which they did. Anyway, good luck and dont give up.

i called them today and told them everything that was wrong with it and they said they would fix the window trough their glass company. when i told them about everything i told you he said that he would repair all the mistakes but when i asked him for at least a partial refund he said "i'm not in the buisness of giving money back".....i'm not sure what to do here. i dont want them attempting to repair the paint and risk even more mistakes ya know? he told me to drop it off on the 12th and they would fix everything and if i still think it looks bad then we MIGHT talk about a refund. i'm thinking of just dropping it off and telling him to fix the windows but dont fix the paint and if he doesnt refund my money then i'm calling the district manager and the B.B.B ...........and about painting the car myself, i realize its not easy and if i dont take my time with sanding the whole car down to metal and sanding each layer of primer/paint/clearcoat then it will look bad but i'm willing to do all those things, the only thing i'm a little worried about is spraying correctly without drips and alot of orange peel....if any of you guys have any tips for me then i'm all ears because my only choice now is to paint it myself because i cant afford 2-3 grand for a good shop to do it and it looks like i may be out 400 bucks now so all i can afford is like 500 bucks which would pay for paint and a gravity feed gun, sanding paper and the needed materials. my freinds dad is a mechanic and his step dad is a welder so they have sanders and a air compressor but he doesnt do body work just mechanical

Wow do I feel lucky. I just got my done from Earl (N Cal) too and seems l got the same special as you - $380.

My paint was difinately cheap and looks like orange peel but its not too bad - nothing a little wet sanding could not fix (I hope). Miracle estimate was $1,500 so I took the cheap Earl rout as both paint jobs looked the same.
