Seems to be running well so far. The only thing I noticed was the radio resets all my presets everytime I shut her off which I already called the dealer about. Gonna wait to take her in and go through everything first. Invoice is below.

good deal my man. glad to hear it.

101 bucks an hour :O I wonder what the grand total was. or, did i miss that somewhere in there

so, do you have to treat it as if it were a new car and drive it very conservatrively(sp) and do you need to take it in for oil sevices while it breaks in. 750 miles, 1500 miles, etc...

He said there is NO breakin procedure but recommended I come back and get an oil change done at 1500 miles to get the starter oil out and whatnot. BTW my presets are now working! weird stuff!

$100 is pretty standard labor rate for customer pay at infiniti / nissan dealers these days... give or take a couple of bucks...

glad you are happy with the new motor! makes me want one too

Looks like the replaced your trunk motor too....

I would have tried to get them to not charge me labor to replace the belts, since warranty is paying to remove and replace on the new motor (new motor comes with no belts)... but its pennies compared to the whole job...

Yeah the belts were half price because they were already in there and they claimed my old belts were "worn". I figured what the hell....i'm good up until 90K!

BTW the new motor on the trunk is awesome! It pops the trunk up about 2 feet in the air!

What the f***, new motor..... "2 feet"!!!!!!!!!!! THEN WHAT WAS THE PURPOSE OF THOSE BURTMAN SPRINGS?!?! I have 1 burtman spring in my garage and I've yet to install it, but.......based on what you said, it's the motor that helps raise the trunk. Someone please explain to my simple a$$ how this works.

I dont think there is a motor. The two struts are attached to the frame behind the rear seat and the other end it attached to the arm of the trunk :/ hmmmmmmm

Dealer told me there is a motor and if you look at the invoice it has a new motor on there for the trunk.

What he had replaced was the closure assembly...

The part in red...

The rest of the trunk opening system, is well... not much... not even rubber bumpers that pop up the trunk... the shocks basicly hold up the trunk, and assist in lifting the trunk lid, but not anything more than that...

that is wild! I just spoke to my part guy at infiniti and he said, "no motor, it uses two struts and that is it " :/ I'm sorry I took the focus off your new motor, but I had to ask in detail about this. lol

I just posted above...

the parts guy you spoke to only looked at the struts... there is more to what opens it... If you take out the "Closure Assembly" which he had replaced, there is nothing that will pop up the trunk at all...

So did I get a new block or rebuilt and how can you tell? Is it a part number thing?

BTW the grand total was a little over 10K!

you got a new long block... according to the part number they charged out...

part number: 10102-CR9A0

the other numbers are manifold gaskets, oil, and other things required when installing the new motor...

The better have put in a new motor or they charged infiniti for a new one and are commiting warranty fraud if they put in a used one!

I just pulled a rear strut from the parts bin... and then went to play with my rear trunk...

When I open mine, it never gets higher then the closure assembly, so it just gets pulled back down as if it were shut...

when i close my trunk down to just before it meets the closure, no pressure is pushing up the trunk... but when the trunk is opened, its hard to push down...

fwiw

The service rep did not tell me that! He said it would probably be a rebuilt one...but I don't he knows very much as he claimed the 03/04 M45's are faster and have a slightly different motor than the new ones. He said you got 340 and the new ones "only" have 335! funny guy!

Nope, looks like you got a new complete long block...

Here is what happens...

You bring your car in for oil consumption or what ever... They find the cause... then the service advisor gets on the phone with INFINITI warranty claims for approval... He then comes to the parts depratment to get different estimates...

Estimates:

1. Long Block Replacement2. Short Block Replacement3. Complete engine overhaul rebuild4. Short Block Rebuild

Warranty claims then figures out which will be less of a cost... Obviously, the long block has the least amount of Labor to be paid out, and further down the list the more labor rates go up for them... parts on a long block rebuild end up being more then a new motor and once you put labor into the mix then thats it, its cheapest to get a long block...

Is there anything I can do to insure I got a new long block? Is there anyway of telling that (numbers on the motor etc) BTW they said it came from Cali (the new motor).

Thanks!

look at the motor... (not the manifolds, they re-use the stock manifolds)

it should look very clean...

the motor probably shipped from a California warehouse... LAR or SAC or something...

The engine was 99.99% a special order for them, i dont know any infiniti dealers that stock engines for this car...

You guys keep stressing over this new/used motor thing. You got a new long block and your car runs good, leave it alone already. If you really want you can use a cherry picker and take out the engine to inspect every bit of it and you will still not know if it is used and cleaned very well or if its new. Brake/parts cleaner and degreaser can do great wonders! I really dont believe a dealership is going to commit warranty fraud like that on a lousy engine swap!Next subject....Cheers

Please do the first oil and filter change sooner than that!! At 500 miles or less, and another at 1500 miles, and then go to a 3,750 miles schedule.

Use dino oil only for the first 7,500 to 10,000 miles.

And, do not baby the engine ... I have posted about this before and I am convinced that proper seating of the piston rings is not done with timid use. My local Infiniti dealer service rep had told me the same thing - use it hard the first 1500 miles. Not continuous high revs, but do accelerate those pistons!

I got my trunk raise problem fixed under warranty - they just replaced the two struts (had to order the parts, since the dealer did not have them in stock) and now everything works just fine!

The service history on mine was perfect. Infinity required documentation for all oil changes in order to approve a new motor.

I told them I was losing over a quart of oil every 800-1000 miles. They then visually checked for leaks and then did a compression and leakdown test which came up bad at which point they replaced the motor.

hmmm I got my struts replaced as well, but to no avail. I actually went by the dealer and showed them the above pics and they still say, "no motor" its strut driven. They said the motor in the hood of the trunk only sucks the hood down. Im vexed!!! >: / But either was Im excited that ChiTown go a new Engine and that the trunk works like it should.
