got engaged

yup, I'm engaged now . I am now engaged to a wonderful woman who I've been "talking to" for the past couple years. My family is very... old school Arab traditional (even though my mom is white/American). So the other day my family asked her family for her hand in marriage. Her family agreed and asked for her approval and obviously she approved lol so now we're technically engaged. Sunday me and my family are going to her house to talk about some of the specifics and probably in about a month there will be an engagement party (Arab tradition) and at that time I will give her a ring and we will get Islamicly married and possibly legally married at the same time. we wont have an actual wedding for a couple years (till we get our bachelors degrees). so I'm still not sure if we will be legally married from the engagement party or the day of the wedding....

thank you everyone... about the meet at the engagement party, lol trust me you wouldnt want to be there. stuff like this always sucks for Libyan men. Arab men from other countries got it good but not Libyans. it's separated, women in one room and men in another. women got the music blasting and dancing and having a good time... men have a sheikh (muslim version of a pastor or rabi) lecture to us the whole time about how we need to treat our wife good and blah blah blah lol

I asked some people and they said that it says in the Hadith that "If a man and a woman are alone then the 3rd person is Satan". so a man and woman are not supposed to be alone together unless the man is the woman's husband, brother, father, or son. So it's sort of hard to date without every really being alone together. which is why ppl say it goes against Islam. The woman is not supposed to even show herself unless the man is her husband, brother, father, or son. and when I say show herself, to most people that means her hair and any skin more then hands and face. some people interpreted it as the woman must also cover her face and everything (my family does not believe in that) but it DOES say in the Quran that the woman must cover herself. If the woman isn't practicing her religion and doesn't cover then that's one thing but if she is practicing then she NEEDS to at least cover her hair and wear long sleeve shirts and pants or dresses (no shorts or skirts).

I don't take in consideration the Hadith. to me the only words from god are in the coran. the other texts are interpretation imo. and it doesn't say that women should cover themselves. it says as advices that if women don't want to me harassed by misonigistic pigs that they can cover themself to not attract unwanted attention. and those words apply to the situation and the time when it was written meaning hot desert places where people already covered themselves up because of the sun, and places where we didn't have police or security and that you where better off hiding than being pwned by stronger peoples.

but anyhow, the way people live their religion is up to them, as long as it is done in the respect of others and oneself.

but whatever hussain, where not going to start discussion religion as it is a complete and utter waste of time. religion is based on faith which itself isn't even rational or debatable. lol
