Yes. It will work. As I recall, you'll want to keep your old intake and exhaust manifolds so you don't have to mess around with the wiring harness and can keep your car OBDI.

Also, I believe the early '95s were OBDI too, so that would make for an easier swap than a '96.

At any rate, lots of folks have done it. I'm sure someone who has actually done this will happen by this thread and correct/add to what I typed here.

People even swap KA24DE engines in to cars that formally had a KA24E single overhead cam engine.

You're soooo awesome... thank you so much!!!! I'm getting the engine for $200 (plus S&H) with 103,000 miles on it. I thinks it a good buy... what do y'all think?

200 isn't bad. I've seen some motors go for as little as 150 with 80k on them.

are you just looking to land a low mileage KA?

$200 as long as it is in good condition. If its then i wouldn't pay a dime for it

tenkawa_akito - Well I'm looking for as low miles as possible for as cheap as possible. I don't want an engine like my s13 has in it now... It was a p.o.s. Burnt oil all the frickin' time. So therefore it threw a rod.

w1ngzer0 - It's a guy off here that is selling it. He said he hasn't raced it and that he hasn't gotten it over 5000 RPM. So I'm guessing it would be alright, but i still want to see pics before I decide anything. He said he would throw in the transmission for $50, but i'm not sure that my transmission was ****ed up when it threw the rod.

And also what do you guys think about the Toyo spectrum? If you have even heard of them.

They're "all-season" tires...which means they provide equally crappy performance no matter the time of year .

Actually, I know almost nothing about them. Post something up in the Tire/Suspension forum. Those guys know their tires and can probably put you on the trail of something better. I can definitely say they're *not* a popular choice around here...you may be the first person to ever mention them!

Worry about tires later. First get a running engine in there!

as long as the engine is in good shap, go ahead and get it. your trans should be fine. the jarring from a thrown rod wouldn't damage the trans the least bit.

just remember thats hipping a motor and trans is expensive. A $50 trans may end up being an additional $100 in shipping

well how much do you think S&H would be for just the motor from Chicago to Ft. Worth, TX? If you don't know that is cool..

FYI, the fact that he hasn't revved over 5k is not necessarily a good thing.

I'd say is more of a bad thing..

nah has nothing to do with being a girl. I don't know eather. Why is it a bad thing not to rev over 5k when the redline is 7k?

My dad has never redlined his engine never went over 3k and he has never had to do major maintance on that engine

Another thing if you rev over 3k you get horrible gas milage.

Yes, I'm curious how is it bad? It's my engine btw :P it's got a lot of miles, but it's not bad for it's year. Never had major problems, the biggest problem is a faulty O2 sensor that is a common thing for it's year if I remember correctly.Edit: It's a 95 with OBDI

I would also like to know this answer... my first guess would be that if it hasnt been over 5k is there a reason?? like was it running wierd to make him not want to rev it that high...also if it hasnt been revved high..i think it could mess somethiing up if it has been running that many miles on low revs, then someone else gets in it and runs the piss out of it....not sure though...Mav

Oh, just never felt like using up that much gas. I mean it's hit like 5K-5.5K in 1st and 2nd to be honest, but never close to redline. Just feel like it would be a waste of gas and not really a good thing to do often.

well, most of the reasoning i've heard behind this is, that it's a good thing to rev to redline once every week or 2 weeks to clean cylinder walls and pistons of any carbon buildup that may be deposited. Now, this seems to make sense, but if an engine was well kept, w/good oil intervals, this may not apply.
