It was last week, didnt you get the drudge story about it? They also listed the Onion as new worthy now.Eikon wrote:and in an unrelated rant..

they have tried a couple of times now. the republican patriotism is what keeps getting in the way.Eikon wrote:So the house, senate and white house have been fully controlled by the Dems for 2 years now and they never bothered to put this bill through sooner? But, when they finally try to rush it through at the last minute with some extremely poorly written plans, it's the GOP's fault for calling them on the bad parts.
I hate politics because nobody ever tells the whole story.. they take the little bits that support the way they want to view the situation and present those alone.

all im saying is that at my current hospital, a regular bed goes for 3500 a night, and an icu bed goes for 6k a night. 7.8 billion is alot if you are counting it in terms of what you pay at rite aid. but in a hospital setting, where an aspirin is 5 dollars, and a pillow is 50, 7.8 billion goes a bit less as far. really, what gets me is that the republicans blocked this only days after demanding that the government renew tax cuts for the richest 2% of americans, only adding to the deficit. they were ok with taking a hit on tax revenues to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars, but this 7.8 billion dollar bill was the straw that broke the camels back.AZhitman wrote:Tariq, I don't disagree with any of that.
But let's go back and look at the OP: "Ashamed of our country" because we don't give handouts to people who were in the wrong place (or the right place) at the wrong time (or the right time, in my opinion, God bless them)....
Who decides eligibility for this fat payday? How can that be done without sliding a$$-first down that slippery slope?
I'm sure their insurance companies LOVE your plan. There's 7.8 Billion reasons to love it.
Listen, I agree 100% that our military men and women get the shaft in many areas. I'd also argue that, in certain cases, they get an undeservedly-sweet deal (which we can discuss separately).
But to ascribe the benefits and accordances of military service willy-nilly upon cops, firefighters, security guards, paramedics and innocent passers-by opens a can of worms the likes of which we haven't seen since the debit-card fiasco of post-Katrina Nawlins.
Prayers for our troops are ALWAYS in order. I'm right there next to ya.
My only response to that is WHY? Why does all that cost so much? 3500 for a night? Ok I realize its not a hotel room, but geez. What do they do, take the average amount of care needed for someone and charge that? Why not itemize more, charge 150 for the room, then charge for fluid IV if its used, charge for heart/pulse ox monitors if they're used. You have really opened the proper jar when trying to figure out whats wrong with healthcare, its too damned expensive. Now Im sure insurance gets a decent discount off those prices, but I bet its not close to what the prices SHOULD be, and then why cant an uninsured individual get the same rates as an insurance company gets? Its not that we need more governement intervention to get coverage for folks, prices in the market need to be reasonable.heliochrome85 wrote:all im saying is that at my current hospital, a regular bed goes for 3500 a night, and an icu bed goes for 6k a night. 7.8 billion is alot if you are counting it in terms of what you pay at rite aid. but in a hospital setting, where an aspirin is 5 dollars, and a pillow is 50, 7.8 billion goes a bit less as far. really, what gets me is that the republicans blocked this only days after demanding that the government renew tax cuts for the richest 2% of americans, only adding to the deficit. they were ok with taking a hit on tax revenues to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars, but this 7.8 billion dollar bill was the straw that broke the camels back.

There is literally nothing they do that isnt for the sake of petty politics. A corner whore has more morals.
I'm ashamed of YOU posting a title like that. You clearly have no respect for anyone and should be banned. Shame on you!!!heliochrome85 wrote:http://www.nypost.com/p/news/national/s ... 8#comments
im ashamed of my country. that is all.
Lots of dead-beats. Most hospitals are for-profit so if they can't deny services they must recoup it somewhere.stebo0728 wrote:My only response to that is WHY? Why does all that cost so much? 3500 for a night?
WHAT?!? PROFIT?!? Does Princess Pelosi, the abolisher of all profit, know about this? Dont hospitals know that profit is evil and illegal, and that they MUST operate at cost?!?audtatious wrote:Lots of dead-beats. good point. that being said, this is the new 3rd rail of politics. 9/11 is sacred, as are its victims. to harm them is to side with the terrorists. not even remotely sarcastic.audtatious wrote:9/11 responders have received more attention than those not involved with 911. This new bill will give them more.
This has some parallels to the families who lost members during 9/11, they received millions additional when other families who lose people during other disasters do not.
And as such, you have to be able to see why your OP was disconcerting.heliochrome85 wrote:this is the new 3rd rail of politics. 9/11 is sacred, as are its victims. to harm them is to side with the terrorists.
Seems to be apparent and brought out in the open when GOP do it but it constantly comes as a shock or a misunderstanding when the Dems do it.WDRacing wrote:Imagine that, politicians using every angle they can to their own benefit.

So, wait. You want to FORCE someone to "care"? That's a nebulous and unquantifiable quality. So, no.heliochrome85 wrote:no, my issue is that the GOP is too bsy crying and wrapping themselves in flags, and hiring Guiliani to campaign for them, to really actually care about the families they are exploiting. when it comes down to it, those people got yanked around when they should have been treated properly. i was hoping for some modicum of decency from the GOP, but alas, no. A party that continues to eat itself can not survive.
whether the guys deserved this bill or not is fairly irrelevant. what is more relevant is that ultimately, the GOP would sell their mothers down the river if it meant there was political gain. how anyone could trust them is beyond me.
