With the SCCA getting rid of stock classes, the only move for me that made any sense was going to SSR (Super Street-R), formerly Super Stock). Super Stock consists of Elise's, GT3's and Z06's for the most part, and luckily I found the best available C5 Z06 for a decent price and traded in the Fixed Roof Coupe.

The Z06 next to my FRC that I traded in.

Stock-Legal build plan for the car:
-Install the dampers/33mm front bar that I used on the FRC last season.
-Lap belt
-DS2500 brake pads
-X-pipe/axle back
-Alignment from Andy Thomas (the guy who did my car last season and many national competition cars)
-Replace plug wires and plugs (just simple refresh)
-Replace oil with Redline (all the vettes on the grid use this)

Well-done sir.

My late-'01 C5 had C6 Z06 suspension, brakes, wheels, tires... Absolutely loved that car. I'm sure yours is going to be even more awesome.

One thing I really admire about you is that you upgrade out of necessity. Its almost like you're FORCED into every upgrade you do.

Congrats man!

lol, my FRC has C6 GS shocks on it for about an hour or so while we had to run to Sears and get a new die set for a cross-threaded shock mount (Koni's threads are very thin and fairly fragile if you over-tighten).

Image

You had the C6Z 18/19's on the car? Did you have to use a spacer on the rear? When we tried a combo of 315/335 tires on the C5 on 17/18 stock setup, we had to use a 5mm spacer (all thats allowed in Stock classifications) to clear the rear.

We're going to try. I have one of the best setup men in the buisness doing the car, now it's just up to my co-driver and I to get some results. SSR is the hardest class in the SCCA, lots of National Champions, a few Drivers of Eminence, so it's going to be an uphill fight every day.

Winter is the perfect time to get another

I know someone selling a very well kept 2000 FRC right now with lots of extras for a steal (14k)

Ad from Paul Brown, car is in Los Alamos, NM
2000 zero-option Fixed Roof Coupe Corvette for sale.

Flame Red. 92000 miles. Interesting Corvette. Good competition car, in A Stock for another year, then who knows - great basis for STU, SSP, and might be OK in the new B Street class, and you could join in the push to have a BSP listing created for the non-Z06 C5. Sort of amazing how much stuff we've collected for it and done to it in three years. Three sets of OE magnesium wheels. Two and a half sets of other OE wheels. Three front sway bars. Koni sports (fronts converted to double-adjustable). Hardbar harness bar and a 4-point harness. ARP wheel studs (needed in order to run 1/4" spacers). Two exhausts – OE Z06 Ti and a louder Magnaflow setup. Borla X-pipe. K&N. New clutch this summer. Three of the four wheel bearings have been replaced since we got it. New radiator in August. New rear street tires this year. Complete set of factory manuals. Probably lots that I'm forgetting to mention. Runs great, completely ready to race. Lots and lots usable Hoosier A6s, including two+ sets we recently claimed on contingency (there's $3500 right there) and a good set of H20 rains. When I say "lots and lots," I mean maybe 40 or 50 decent used tires. Speaking of contingency, the car has trophied all three years we've had it at the Solo Nationals. This one can be yours for $14,000, with lots of spare parts and the log book with all of our data on what we've done. Double that price and it will include a 22-foot Pace American enclosed trailer which we bought and set up for this car.

Cant leave time on the table =) Even with a well prepped car, there are lots of nights where I'm tossing and turning about time left out on the course at a national event.

Thanks Joel. Got any vids of last year's carlisle course? If it's a bit more open and not the huge cones that can break fiberglass, I'll make the trek up there this year and hang out/instruct/etc.

Here's one. We moved the starting line to opposite end, which I thought worked out pretty well, The course is gonna be tight due to that narrow pavement we're working with but I thought there was still plenty of room for a wider car like yours to navigate easily. As far as the cones themselves, we're at Carlisle's mercy. Last year they supplied fairly new soft tall ones, but unlike previous years, we got enough to lay out the entire course without any of those less forgiving blue barrels you saw the last time you were there. FWIW, My Z nailed some of those big cones hard and I didn't notice any marks.
I hope you can join us.

James, if my non-driver a$$ can run the course w/o hitting cones, you'll be fine.

Replica wheels (5-spoke) with the correct offset. Got introduced to the V12's and fell in love with them, especially for the price.

Also ran headers, SS midpipes and added the Ti exhaust... I got pretty well hooked up working on other peoples' 'Vettes! :dblthumb:

Looks good! I like that color, although I'm not excited about the "go fast stripes", they're not awful either. Looks like you're due for a new avatar pic!

Lol thanks =) It's pretty dirty right now, needs a washing after a trip to Spruce Knob in it.

Waiting on a chest infection to clear up, and then will put on the Koni Yellow's I have from the FRC, the 33mm front bar and the Traqmate data platform.

Super Stock Class build parts ordered yesterday:
The following is coming in
-Magnaflow Magnapack exhaust (xipipe/resonators/straightpipe axleback)
-K/N Air Filter Drop-in
-TR5 sparkplugs
-Plug Wires
-Ferodo DS2500 brake pads (seriously, these are amazing brake pads)
-Redline 5/30 oil (redline is all we use in the vettes, it's all we really trust)
-Redline D4 ATF for the trans
-Redline 75/90 for the diff
-Typ200 brake fluid
-Oil Catch-Can
-Lapbelt + mounts (C5 seat is terrible but have to keep it because of stock rules, so an additional lap belt is always a good thing to have)

I've been using Ferodo DS2500 pads on my Z for several years, (with my Stoptech BBK). Love them, especially when they are hot. Braking on track is a non-issue.

Same here. They're on every car I own (where available).

Ferodo DS2500 > Hawk all day long.

They were phenomenal on my supercharged G Coupe.

Wish I had known, I could have hooked you up.

C5 seat takes well to modification of the foam... creative application of various vicosities of foam and plastics makes the C5 seat as good, if not better, than an aftermarket racing seat.

I've been researching these since you guys posted about these yesterday. Where the hell can I buy them from????? I can't find anyone and their website isn't friendly as to what models you can buy for and- maybe I'm dumb- but I can't find the "purchase now" button.
All that is available on their website for the Miata is the FDB and FSL styles, not the DS.

Its all good Greg. I get everything for the car from Strano. He outfits the car and does the setup on it. He did the dialin on the FRC and has more national champion jackets than I have actual jackets, so its in good hands =)

Man I wish I could be allowed to modify the seats, but they have to stay stock as per the rules =(

K, about time for an update on this.

So, the season is underway here in 2014.

So, this winter, we put livery on the car, wearing 42 as 35 is taken.

Image

Image

We competed in the 2014 SCCA Dixie National Tour and the car took home a trophy, and also got to be driven home in a blizzard that hit the MD/VA region (very dicey drive)...

Next up was the Wilmington Match Tour in Ohio. I drove out the weekend before to get some seat time on the surface and left the car there with a friend, taking home a rental car.

I rode back out to Ohio with a friend and competed in the Wilmington Match Tour. The car took home a trophy here also.

Most recently, it competed on my home course, the Washington DC Pro Solo, which it also took home a trophy. Was a rough event for me, I had just flown back from Germany and was suffering jet lag and fighting a car that wasn't turning properly. My co-driver did damned well though!
