You rejected the twin turbo Z32, citing it's weight was detrimental to it's handling (which it is not) and then you opt instead for something just as heavy (if not heavier) with assuredly worse handling.

I really feel that you don't have any real world knowledge of any of the cars being suggested to you in this thread.

Well, he did say from $4000-$9000. I suggested cars that one could get at that lower end of the price scale so the rest of the money could go towards upgrades. But based on the OP's comments, I think alloting any funds for possible upgrades is simple folly.

He is 16 year old buying a car for a highschool parking lot. You remember what it is like... Real performance is not that imortant.

Honestly, buy a clean but old S10, a cheap air bag system and a loud but cheap stereo. Will fit your budget, impress the school kids AND let the cool cars go to those who appreciate them

Best budget sports car value hands down is a Miata. For those unenlightened guys that label them chick cars, I have 2 words: Spec Miata.

Cheap to buy, fun to drive, cheap to fix, easy on gas, reliable, plenty of upgrades available.

Cheap to buy,
Where can one buy a Spec Miata? Or are you saying they are cheap to buy and then cheap to mod to conform to the Spec racing class?

I'd love to get one that is already racing spec, turbo it and drive it on the street...

Actually both. I have some less mechanically inclined friends that bought them already built and some more handy with a wrench who built them up themselves. There are plenty of places to find them for sale. They are not rare.

the mustang is like 300 pounds lighter, sounds sick, has more torque, looks better (my opinion), and is around the same price.

Labelling a Miata a chick car means you're either misinformed or don;t know much about sports cars. The SCCA's single largest racing category is Spec Miata.

Don't get all worked up, its a serious suggestion. Your obviously worried about the image of your car, and a bagged S10 with a system fits that pretty well...

BTW, no disrespect intended but your 16, which means you have had a license less then a year.... Chances are that you know A LOT less about cars then you think. But that is pretty much standard for your age.

i was joking but i forgot sarcasm doesnt translate to text.i still think that a miata looks like a girl car in stock form but i never said i hated them or wasnt going to get one, its still in the air.
troskinatior wrote: the mustang ...sounds sick ...looks better
i dont wanna drive around in a car that i dont like the look of and the engine... come on you think that i wanna impress people with the way it sounds, 99% of the kids in my school dont even know what a v8 is so i couldnt impress them and the girls will think its to loud

the miata is a great track/autocross car but it doesnt look like a typical sports car. its a tiny convetible with no agressive styling (atleast my opinion) but it you add a lip or a body kit it looks good as hell.

Your right i have little knowledge on how to work on a car but when it comes to the basics i got it set.

That makes no sense at all. Turbo'ing it would take it out of it's class (making it worthless for competition) and having a car built for the Spec class just to putt putt around on the street and look cool is a phenomenal waste of cash.

Thanks for that link BTW. I could care less about additional mods placing it out of it's class, since I wouldn't be track racing it, most likely. Pretty much, I just wanted the chassis/suspension/brake prep done before I bought it and got it ready for street use.

But I suppose if I just got with a stock model, I could build a more 'hella-flush/street themed' car.... Meh...

Well, you just said you wanted a Mustang... who knows what year and model you're referring to... I'd take a twin turbo Z32 over the previous 3 generations of Mutang GT anyday...

Coming from a guy that has a '98 Cobra, my old 240 was faster, lighter, and handled better that the Cobra. Granted, the Cobra sounds better (in certain ways. I still miss turbo sounds) but if you're going for a fast car that looks good and is comfortable, the Cobra is nice. The 240, though, is cheaper to mod and has more stuff available. For $6000K you could get a killer S13 that is ready to fly. But of course, HP means more down time.

My old S13 had a ton of mods but could be had for Cobra money as stated above. 240's are also great in stock form if you wanted to go for the Kouki or even a Zenki in great shape. Mustangs can be fun, but it all depends on your goals (if any) for the car. Just FYI, my next sporty car I'm going to get is most likely going to be a Miata. I miss my turbo car.

Is300 FTW?

Classy quick cheap reliable engine swap for a TT? Or maybe a bolt on i dont know if the blocks are different.

Depending on how track vrs dd an older 944 setup for track would be a great car.

ONLY spring for the 944 TURBO. It's the only one with the good-for-something-other-than-a-boat-anchor Porsche built engine.

Very true, but every car has it's pro and cons. I would still take the Z over the Stang. But lets not forget, I recommended like 5 other cars that I would take over the Z though too... OP glanced over those like he didn't even see 'em... lol

Oh well, to each his each.

True, but I'm not sure a fast powerful car like a Z or V-8 Mustang is a wise choice for a 16 yr old who recently got his driving license. Better choice for a kid with a limited income is something cheap, small and reliable.

Still makes no sense. Why do all that for a car that you'll just drive to work? You dont need stiffer suspension and upgraded brake pads to sit in traffic or go to Burger King.
