I'm headed to the track, all of my buddies around here are very impressed with the car, and want a few good natured grudge matches. (everyone watched me go neck and neck with a Camaro Z28 in a 70-135mph run).So now they want to race me at the track. Based on how the car feels, I think that I can squeeze out a 15 flat e.t. I'm going to the exaust shop later today, and getting a pair of flowmaster 40's installed in place of the stock muff;s. And having the final muffler removed, getting pipes inplace of it.

I'm going up against a 91 CRX si, with greddy intake manifold, Skunk stage 2 cams, Vtec head, and Hondata controller. I'm pretty sure that I can take him.

A stock Colbalt SS, w/fartcan.

And a Dodge Dakota Standard cab/w 5 speed and the 4.7 magnum.

I'm curious and to what the results will be. I'll have lots of videos to post up after words!

Flowmasters! EEEK! They sound good, don't flow worth a crap, and are decently priced. I vote Hooker Max-flows or Dyno-Max ultra flow.

any full size muffler with a straight through design should work well. The Hookers really are the best.

Honestly, your Q is best out on the highway doing those 70-135 runs. Out of the whole, I don't feel the G50 has much to offer.

I think the Cobalt will probably own you. The CRX, I don't know about but it probably honestly has a better HP to weight ratio but you may run pretty close. The Dakota...............Please!!! Watch your rearview for him.

Just my 2 cents.

I think low to mid 15's is realistic. The Q wins races on the freeway.

Leave the premuffs alone they are great straight thru units, it is the rear that has some mid restriction...................all in all don't even expect 0.1 secs improvement in quartermile much less than 10 HP to be gained.

At this point you would probably get the most improvement in your time by adding a can of BG44K to the fuel. Your Q will shoot off the line like a rabbit. Good Luck.

I was gonna say that too. The pre-mufflers aren't restrictive, just remove the rear "suitcase" muffler and run some pipes out the back. You aren't going to gain much power if any, but you'll be more intimidating.

Good luck and we'll be waiting for the results and some video footage.

Here's a clip of what that sounds like from "Ozzie"http://smg.photobucket.com/alb...t.flv

Assuming everything is as new, maybe 15.3

Your first race is where the Q excels.

I wasn't really expecting any gains with the exaust, I just want a more intimadating sound. And that post with the video, its just with the muffler replaced? Sounds nice!

since you said flowmaster, heres a refrence for you.my 1990 q with 50 series installed. resonators and cats removed, 2.75 inch piping. motor stock cept nico stage 3 ecu. I highly suggest you go with the 50 series, the 40's are loud as hell on a Q.

I inspected the under car mufflers after I had them replaced. They are a straight thru design. There is very little to be gained by just swapping them out. I would just remove or replace the rear muffler.

To get real power from the exhaust side, you would have to do the whole system.

Can't remember who it was, someone else will, but they did the whole exhaust system top notch and did dyno's before and after and actually lost HP with the new system......

During Christmas I went home to San Diego for a week, and while I was there I pulled the rear muffler off and had the exhaust shop bend up some pipes to put in its place. It sounds soooo good. The videos I'd seen before doing it don't really do it justice.

Well it was raining all day, so the track was closed. I did get the exhaust finished, it sounds soooooo good now. All I had was pipes and tips installed in place of the stock muffler.

So now we are going to the track next friday.

A very common result.

Like Sijoko said you have to do the whole exahust system, like Rswicki did from the headers back.

I'm pretty sure even q45tech said not much can be improved with the stock exhaust except for the main rear muffler... All I would do is run pipes from the pre-mufflers and call it a day if you don't want to lose power and still have the sound.

And he has dyno sheets of before and after (more changes that just exhaust) to show his overall improvement, some of which came from the full exhaust.

I'd like to hear and see some video or at least photos of the exhaust now if you have the resources to post some.

Here it is, its as subtle as I could get it. Just two 2.5in tips. The exaust shop charged me about $70 for everything. My camera was on a tripod sitting sideways to keep it out of the water. Please ingore the muck and its real soupy out side right now. I love the way it sounds now. It sounds like a V8No real power gain, but it does seem to rev faster now. In the vid I reved it to right at 6000 rpm. http://s2.photobucket.com/albu...0.flv

Just so happens my DD is an 06 Cobalt SS/SC with the Q being a project car for me. I am interested in how you fare against the SS, since obviously I cant drive mine at the same time. I can tell you that stock I ran 14.3 at 98 mph, in the SS. Have fun at the truck its always fun to take a car out and beat on it at the track!

On the road you can't hear it. The only time its audible is under acceleration. The harder your on the gas the louder it gets. I love the way it sounds personally.

wes is right, raspy. With the whole system from the headers back youget a more throaty sound. Listen..... http://s96.photobucket.com/alb...51325
