I still love reading here because I usually get a few laughs.

BUT...please be easy on a former M45 owner and current BMW owner. We are not all BMW elitist snobs. I am definitely not driving a BMW as a status symbol. I love the way my car looks, handles, and drives. I don't have the brute force and speed that my M had, but it is still a fast enough car and I love the fact over the last few months I've been able to mod the crap out of it since there are so many aftermarket parts available for it!

Please don't hate all BMW owners.

BMW owners like you are not the ones that annoy most people. You appreciate the car for what it is, not just the badge and what it implies. I'm a former BMW owner who got tired of the high cost of repairs, which it needed frequently. I traded it in for the M45 which I found to be almost equal to if not better in some ways than the 540i I had.

I for one am not going to hold anything againist you for owning a BMW and in fact welcome you to what seems to have become a chat about almost anything. Hope the moderator doesn't shut us down.

To all: Where did that original poster go and did he ever buy that M? Wait a minute, I think he might have moved over to the NAVI postings. Take a look and see if this does not sound like the same guy.

Yup!

But I am reading it to make sure that it stays reasonably civil. If it gets too far afield from M discussion, then I may ask people to start another thread ... in General Chat probably.

I'm sure you're a fantastic, and exceptionally nice guy but please.. please do me a favor and take an economics class. Just make a quick call to the local community college and sign up for econ 101. Oh, and don't run for office.. ever. There are too many people who say this kind of complete nonsense everyday, and most of them are in office.Wage and price controls are obviously not the answer. Oil companies are in a variable industry. Profits are a good thing at this time so future development may be possible.

If you must blame someone for the oil prices, blame Clinton, Bush, and their ridiculous Iraq policy... not to mention the Greenies and the Left of left.

I know this is off topic. I just couldn't stand to say nothing.

Yes I am a nice guy, thanks. I guess I should take my MBA in Finance from GWU and get re-educated at a community college.

You are buying into the news media and big business twist on things too much. I put the news media in with big business because they own the media.

Going to go get my app for a HS diploma now. Thanks for the advice. Most of what I posted was a joke. Except the part about execs salaries and mismanagement. And I am a green person too. Retired from GE and know all they care about is $$$$$.

Me too. Big ones. Like with multi-diesel engines that can cross oceans and need a captain, a mate, a steward and a cook. Did this guy buy that M or not?

"Big ones." Hmmm, my wife says mine is big enuf, so she hid the Viagra again. Geez guys, M's, firearms, power boats are all extensions of the male pen15. It's a helluva' lot cheaper to extend the real thing w/just a little bit of Viagra...

Maybe the guy got wise, wiser than us and went w/extending the real thing and saving his $$$!

I'm so glad that GWU preaches on the harm of buying into "news media and big business twist" instead of teaching sound economic theory. Great MBA program.

And of course, I get all of my material from "news media" and "big business" that "own" the media because no one does research on their own. Who has their own opinion anymore, right?

You have me laughing so hard I almost soiled myself. Be carefully with those pills, you don't want to go full auto for 4 hours and wind up in the hospital. Wonder what they actually do when that happens?

Actually they do have a decent MBA program. Once we got past Econ 101 we learned that you can manipulate supply or demand which is what I think is going on today.

I am totally convinced the likes of ExxonMobile and others are cutting back on supply and driving prices up. They want to force us to allow drilling in "green" areas. Their excess profits are not needed to build new capacity. They just want us to allow them to have their way. The executive salaries are out of control too. What makes them worth the millions they are getting?

As for ethanol, everything I have read points to it not being a long-term solution and in fact a poor fuel in many ways.

Just put some 93 octane good stuff in my M and mileage went up and so did performance if the seat of my pants is a good indicator. I just used to be able to get 91. I think I am going to search are some aviation gas and try to buy some of that. That ought to get the M fired up big time.

Our country is based on fear and corruption. If you can't see that your blind. The media is a FEAR based media. Tell me the last time you turn on the news and heard nothing but good news.

$$$$ is the motivation of every big cooperation, and they have no understanding of an honest dollar. The only thing more corrupt then big business is our government.

Wages of top execs of big companies are ridiculous. Look at a company like Sprint, whom I unfortunately own a good deal of stock in. They fired (forced to step down) their old CEO Gary Forsee because he ran the company into the ground. When he was fired he received a severance package worth 55 million dollars.

Thanks for running the business into the ground, here is 55 million. Sounds good to me.

Gas prices are where they are because our government has let it get there. Maybe there is a conflict of interest that our President would stand to loose money and friendships if he did anything about it. He will just ride the wave of $h!tty reign until November when it's someone else's turn. Maybe then we will get a president that doesn't have his hands in so many cookie jars...............

Whoops ... guys, let's not let this thread drift into politics though! We have a very distinct forum for that - and for good reasons too!

OK -- back to cars; specifically M45's and BMW's. I have threee buddies that all own (or recently owned) BMW's.

1. an IBM exec with a 540i wagon. Loves the car/hates the service and the dealer. Also has a lexus. will NEVER buy another BMW due to maintenance issues and costs he's had with the 540i.

2. A Doc - has (oops - had) a 2006 M3 convertible. In the shop constantly. Loved the car when it was running. Traded it last month on a 08 G37 coupe. Has a deposit on the GT-R

3. Another Doc - has a 540i sedan (2005) Loves the way it drives, hates visiting the dealer monthly for "little, but expensive" stuff. Will not own another Bimmer. Bought his wife a G35 sedan this year, to replace her older 3 Series. I forsee an new M45 in his future!

So, BMW's are great driving cars. BMW's also make dealers wealthy! I can't argue with the merits of driving a BMW -- IF you have the patience AND you can afford it.

But I've found Infiniti's offer 95%+ of the driving experience with NONE of the maintenance/dealer hassles.

As for that USED M45 you are considering -- RUN A CARFAX! I bought a Mazda Millenia years ago - prior to CarFax being available to the public, and found out 3 months later that the car had been wrecked in Cali, shipped to AZ and fixed, then sold -- to me. The body/paint work was amazing, but upon close inspection by a professional auto body guy (when I was adding a body kit) we determined it had been hit on the passenger side - HARD.

Now adays having a negative CarFax will reduce the value of your car by $2,000 to $5,000 -- MORE if it's an expensive car.

Keep looking if it's been hit -- I found mine via AutoTrader. Just have the cash ready to go and grab one when you find the right one. Also -- run the VIN at Infiniti to see the maintenance. They'll print it out for you.

GOOD LUCK

Luv me some M...and I luv my Cobalt. Be sure to check my homepage if you're into them too.

Got couple o' weapons as well but I've never owned a BMW. Don't want one either.

A friend of mine ran his '95 325 till it had something like 145K-160K miles on it and he was quite pleased with it. He went with a Volvo later and I suspect he's regretting it since Ford got their hands into it. I'll have to check in on him again and spank his Volvo with the M soon.

I suppose I have enough room on my tow hook for a Volvo badge too.

Seems like everyone has a similiar opinion about the BMW. Mine too was just a nightmare to keep running. In the shop constantly. That's why I bought the M. In the shop once in 4 years for a minor problem. Although I liked some of the features the BMW had, the M has others that I like better.

I just don't understand why they are not holding their value better. There were not that many produced. Its an awesome car that got rave reviews and still the car mags droll all over the BMW's. Can't quite figure that out??

Overall the M has to be a better value, just on maintence alone.

William James in 1890 said it best: "Whilst part of what we perceive comes from our senses from the object before us, another part (and it may be the larger part) always comes out of our own mind."

Put your "mind" to work on the two words "Infinity" and then "BMW." Which one evokes sexy, regardless of the objective reality we all know so well?

Well, yeah, I thought so-

As far as the BMW being better is ones own perception. My best friend has a 2004 745Li bought brand new and he has had several major problems with including the transmission going out and electrical issues. If the car was not under warranty it would have cost over $20K. To replace brakes on the car cost's $2K. I know BMW offers free maintenace deal but what are you going to do when it runs out. For how much a 7 series cost they are not built well and have alot of problems. He also had a 5 series that was 2004 that had issues too. BMW's cost alot more plus alot more too maitain and that is fact. My friend if your looking to buy a M buy one that is cerified for an Infiniti dealer because they will not sell it off their lot if it does not meet the standards they will sell it to a wholesaler.

It's plenty cars that can take out any car but what you need to know is it is the best in its class far as performance, price and overall quality.
