Hey everyone, please read AirBox 101 to get the scoop on the steps preceeding where I start. Everyone wants an intake with a cold air ram, well, I decided since I had some time to kill ( still don't have that damn air conditioner belt on, but I don't know if I"m gonna put it on cuz my woman isn't complainin : ) I decided to open up that restrictive factory airbox, and include a step by step process of what I did. : )
Heres the tools you'll need:1 Screw Driver1 Tin Snips or Clippers of some sort1 Hack Saw1 Roll Electrical Tape
Heres all the tools
I ended up just brute forcing most of it. : )
Heres my engine bay when we started, I had just disconnected the factory airbox, and was getting ready to unscrew the bottom half to remove it.
So, I can't seem to get the bottom of the airbox out, the screw thats in there is stripped or something, and there just doesn't seem to be any way to remove it, so what do I do you ask? Well, I resort to man's best friend, the opposible thumb. : ) I decided I would just cut the plastic tab that the screw was screwed into.
After attempting the hack saw, I found out that it just didn't seem to fit, so I grabbed some snips
And sure enough that bad boy came out. : )
As seen here, it turns out those two knobs aren't screws at all, they just slide in like lincoln logs.
Here is the bay with no box in there.
So, from here you have two choices, one, you can fit the filter element into the top half of the airbox and electrical tape it shut, you just have to make sure and seal off all the edges so that its air tight. This is the easiest way, it looks a little ghetto but its very clean. If you do this, you're all done. HOWEVER, I didn't have any electrical tape. : ) So I decided to go route two, and use the bottom half of the airbox to hold the filter in...after some modifications of course. : )
So I pin that b**** down and go at it with the hack saw around the edge. After I had cut thru, I forced in the snips and started cutting away.
Make sure that you don't cut into the seat for the air filter, or it will all be moot. You can cut all that extra **** away, just don't cut the latches or the little ring that covers the air filter. With that said, heres my finished product. I could have made it cleaner, but it was night fall, I was being eaten by mosquitos and I fear the west nile disease, so that will have to do for now.
