Haha yeah I agree. I had a friend in high school like that. He was annoying as hell.
This applies to ANYONE trying to be ANYTHING they aren't. The only thing worse than a poseur is a poseur who's still alive. (I'm not sure if the french spelling is correct, or comedic--i.e. trying to be french and therefore being a poser itslef, or just wrong, but its how I've seen it spelled the most, so I'm using it. Please tell me if I am wrong--I hate spelling badly). If you can't be happy with who you are, you have serious problems. And if your friends can't be happy with who you are, they are NOT friends. There is no good reason for anyone to act like they are something they are not.
As for language and dress: do what you want. Who cares what other people think. If you enjoy using slang, or just use it out of habit, or whatever, don't let people tell you not to. Hell, I played GTA:San Andreas for hours last night and I keep slipping up and talking like a black gangster--and I'm what people would commonly call a goth*...and I'm white.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------*I figured this would work better here than in parentheses:I HATE that goth is the word used for this description. Goths are a religious group. They are nothing like what people commonly call goths. Just because I dress in black and act a certain way, I'm suddenly a goth. But does anyone know what a goth really is? Can they point our Gothic architecture? Are they aware of the immense historical significance of the group? Some people, yes; but the majority, NO! This is just like what jdmfreak said about "ghetto." It's become misconstrued, and its irritating for people who want to use the word for its original--and correct--manner. No one knows what I mean if I use the word "goth." And yet, there is no other single word that describes what "goth" has come to describe, so even I have to use it myself--either that or add this rediculously long diatribe at the end of every post I use it in. /rant---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
