I have a 2008 Rogue and the gear shift is stuck in park. Only way to get it out and drive is use a small screwdriver in the slot on the gear shift console. My transmission has gone bad and is going to be replaced under warranty. I'm wondering if the gear shifter is related to the bad transmission and should be also covered. I have 110,000 miles on the rogue.

I'm no mechanic but I guess I'll try this. Can I assume if I don't do it correctly it can go back the way it was?

yup. its not permanent.

when you pop off the bezel around the shifter, (with the engine off) move the shifter around from P to (anything else) and see how the internals work when you press the brake pedal, when you press the shift knob button, etc.

Just got my Rogue back with the new CVT. drove it home and decided to try the shift knob remedy. OMG, thank you, thank you, thank you. The hardest part was getting the bezel around the shift knob off! Then it took maybe 3 minutes. I can't believe I saved $600 I don't have.

i have had this fix in my car for a little over a year, and its solid. i drove around a few days (and realized its a sure fix) and went back in with some super glue to make sure its a SURE (semi-permanent) fix that cant undo itself.

NOTE: because this fix, by-passes all electronics, the car can be taken out of park when the car is fully off (just keep that in your mind if you have kids crawling around in the car. if you have kids crawling around, just apply the parking brake for insurance.)

CVT replaced and new drive belt. Now my wife hears a noise as if metal to metal is grinding. Any ideas before I take it back to the service department?

I'm new to the forum and am having, what I assume are transmission issues. My 2011 Rogue has 82k miles. Had serpentine belt changed about a month ago and now my rpm's jump, my gas mileage hit the wall and if feels like I'm towing a boat.
Anyone have any suggestions or things I should ask the dealership? I'm dropping off in the am. Thanks!!
