I have a 2012 altima coupe and I want to replace the gear shift knob. It's an automatic, not manual, and I want to replace it with a rhinestoned one. I don't want to bedazzle the stock one so when it comes time to sell my car, they person won't be stuck with rhinestones. I don't know how to remove the knob. I've watched videos but they're not for my exact model or an automatic. Any help would be appreciated.

You mean CVT not automatic right? Either way, I believe the knob should simply twist and unscrew off. That's how a friend got his done.

I mean automatic as in my car isn't 5 speed. But I figured it out. Thank though!

there is a U-shaped clip that locks the knob in place. To get to this clip, simply apply pressure to the chrome piece towards the bottom of the knob. push it down til it separates from the knob. you will then see the u shaped clip. Get a flat head screw driver or something small to slide it out. if i remember correctly, you push the clip towards the back of the car. after that, simply slide the knob up and it comes off.

i found this after typing my little paragraph. the hardest part for me was getting the little chrome piece to separate from the knob.

Yeah I got the nerve up to try that myself, I was worried I was going to break it. Do you know if they make replacement ones with the U shape ring? All the ones I've seen are with screws.

I understand, glad you got the knob figured out! BTW If you have a coupe, technically it's a CVT transmission but might be considered an "automatic" in the traditional sense which can be confusing, but I gotcha (CVT is the only other kind other than the manual 6 speed on 2007+ Altimas).
