i keep getting gas smell inside the car.i fuel lines in the engine bay are tight, no leaks.a could months ago a buddy and me replaced the fuel pump (would've done it myself,WANTED to do it myself.) but i really don't smell the gas in the trunk area.and there's no fuel line leaks. also it seems more pronounced when the windows are cracked open. but not so much with the moonroof.

any idea's guys?

well i looked under there no leaks. and when the engine is cold no leaks.the smell is coming from the trunk area.the fuel lines dont leak.

i thought that maybe the assembly was still loose.so i went to tighten them down...they were loose. but three of them just turns...i tried to unscrew them but no luck?! wtf?

Either the gas tank neck or the screws are stripped from over tightening when installing fuel pump. Or they may have used longer screws and punctured the tank AND striped the screws.

Either way you will be lucky if they just striped the OEM screws one the gas tank neck, Otherwise guess who needs a new gas tank, fuel pump assembly gasket and new screws.

wtf, i think i owe my buddy an a** kicking.anyway I'm not really tripping because it's inside the car so it's somewhat easy to do.

i think it's the screws that stripped but these screws were loose.

have this same problem myself only when cold and heater is on. Also you can smell it outside the car. Only noticeable when its cold out. Did a plenum job a bit back and replaced 95% of the hoses. Coulda missed one little simple one but unsure. I dont really drive it in the winters so i don't really care.

On top of the professional advice given to you. I want you to seriously do something before you spend the time to do others. If im wrong, well, you loose nothing, if im right, your problem is solved.***WARNING, IM SPEAKING FROM EXPERIENCE*****Go to you buddy and ask like this:"Hey a$$hole, when you changed the fuel pump, did you change that rubber seal that the fuel pump sits on?"Probably not. Because its an DEALER item only if im not mistaken. Cost like 23-27$, Once used, its very hard to use it again. They are so delicate, f used for 1 hr and taken off, its hard as hell to put them back. If not replaced when doing a fuel pump job, u will get gas smell in the car. GUARANTEED!! You will get less gas smell if u crack the gas tank cap. Believe me, i didn't change mine. Got the smell, and was like WTF you f..ed up my fuel pump. Then come to find out my mech said, i needed to change that rubber seal. I did, and put the pump back myself. In the process of doing that, i messed up the leveler thingy, and now my car wasn't reading the amount of gas. But hey no gas smell. 3 days later, i couldn't keep up with how much gas in the car, so i took pump out and replaced that leveler thingy. tried to put the new seal i bought 3 days ago BACK in there. It was bloated up and looked like it wouldn't fit. But i made it work. Gas smell is back again.!. SO i went and bought another rubber seal from Infiniti dealer again. Replaced it without damaging anything this time, and what do u know, everything is working just fine and no gas smell. And here i was thinking it was a line or gas tank may have a hole, Or was not properly screwed in. Moral of story, you may need to replace that rubber seal I can almost bet my life on it.!! U cannot reuse tat seal.. Even if its 1 hr old. Once used and taken out, u cannot put it back in!!

*** I apologize for not using proper terms, but im not a mech, nor do i know the proper terms and names of the parts, i just know how to describe em, so no one chew me out for this post!*****

New O ring and even incremented star patterned torquing of the screws is mandatory!
