The fuel hoses on the back side of the plenum are probably at fault.

Sounds like the same problem I had (posted a thread with video of hose dripping sometime last year)Was a 5-6 inch peice of hose running into firewall area under passenger side of plenum. Only leaked on cold starts then after soking in heat it would stop.

I just tightened mine. Its the vertical rubber hose with two metal clamps, right below the IAC. You -can- reach the screws with a small screwdriver if you move the throttle cables. Its a lot easier though to buy an IAC gasket and remove the IAC for cleaning while youre back there.

Hi,I tightened mine also. It was a small vertical one in the area shown in the picture. I was only able to tighten the bottom part of hose. There is no way to reach the upper part. I didn't try to tighten it too much, just 3-4 rotations, is that enough or should I tighten it more. I drove the car after that, initially there was some smell but now it seems gone. I'll try again. Regards, Wasim.

That's the spot they were directing you to. I had two leakers back there when I first bought my Q and eventually was able to get to them both. I gave up at first but kept going back with different tools. With the right tools you can get to the clamps you've given up on. Make sure to check for leaks with the engine cold as small leaks tend to slow down as the hoses heat and expand. As Jesda suggested, you may have to remove the IAC valve (adjacent to the right side of your circle) to get to all the clamps. Hopefully you've reached and tightened the right clamp(s) and the fuel odor will go away once the residual evaporates. Good luck.

Are these the hoses you guys are referring to?

Can anyone tell if these look original or if they may have been replaced? I checked mine and they are very tight. I get the fuel smeel in the morning when I start the car for the first time.

Those aren't the ones. The usual suspect is a fuel hose buried deep under the middle of the plenum. It connects to the fuel pressure regulator and leads to the hard line to the fuel filter. Kinda under that yellow rectangle in the previous pics.

I had the same problem with my 94 Q and this morning I tightened those hoses and it seemed to have done the trick. The screws were amazingly loose where I was able to turn one about 4 times and the second one about 3.

Modern fuels eat these hoses from the inside and thus their I.D. increases.Tightening once is just a temporary fix. Just part of the PERIODIC [every] 80-120k under plenum hose replacement.
